My Little Flower Book – April 2016 Unboxing – My Little Box

Happy Tuesday! Here we are with my last piece of monthly mail for the month. This month has seen the My Little Box had a one of packaging face lift in a suitably spring theme ‘My Little flower Book‘, yes book!

The packaging this month has had a little refresh into a format that opens as a book, personally I love this and wish every box was like this design wise, but that being said the lid on my box is so flimsy and the ribbon is almost ripping off on the inside already. There was no print this month – the second in a row, but as usual it came with the My Little World magazine.

First up of the additional items was a lingerie holder for travel if you go away. A nice idea and it does seem really nicely made, but if you have anything over a C cup it doesn’t look like your bra will fit in here… mine certainly don’t so an item I’ll see if a friend wants to take off my hands.

Next was a little cardboard box, it took me a little minute to realise what this is, it’s a city skyline with rows filled for you to grow seeds, now given this was my little flower box I was expecting this to be flowers, but infact it’s cress. This is the only item in the box which really has ties to being in the flower theme and it’s not even flowers.

The first beauty item that I pulled out this month was a Nails inc polish in the shade Tate, now this was disappointing as I’d already previously received this in the My Little Energy box last January. Speaking to customer service on their Facebook I shouldn’t have received this and they’ve popped a different item in the post for me. I was in two mind whether to wait for that item to come or post it, but I believe they won’t be sending me a Nails Inc item in return as they saw me say that I actually really didn’t like Nails Inc, so they hinted that it might not be a polish which is really nice I think. Given this is what I should have got rather than whatever they’re going to send I thought I’d show it as it should have been.

Next up was a L’Occitane Shower Gel, this again was a little disappointing for me, as we’ve had a L’Occitaine Shower Oil in a previous box. The scent mine came in was Pivoine Flora which I’ve had in a had cream previously. It’s a nice floral scent, but it’s hard to get me excited about a shower gel.

Last was the item from My Little Beauty which this month was a Face Mask, an item which again we only saw a few months ago with the noxi doxi peel and mask and it’s the one that has me most excited from the whole box. Rosee du Matin is a detoxifying mask designed for use in mornings to leave you fresh faced and ready to start the day. I’ve already tried this a few times over the weekend so I’ll hopefully get chance to get a face mask post up this week for it!

I’m still not sure if I’m going to continue with My Little Box, and I’ve decided to give it one more month before deciding. If I’m still undecided I think I will cancel. I think the best way to describe it is that it’s lost it’s sparkle for me. 2 of my old work friends also subbed to my little box and we had a discussion this week about what they felt about it and they all agreed they’re starting to feel like it’s lost it’s appeal for them too – and they’ve both been subbed a lot shorter time than I have.

One of my friends hit the nail on the head saying she feels like all the non beauty items which have arrived for the past few months have been cute, but things she’s put immediately in the bin. For the past few months there has been at most one product that I’ve been excited to try from the box and everything else has left me bored. It’s a shame as I don’t want to unsubscribe having been on the journey from the start and their customer service has always been friendly and brilliant on the rare occasion there has been a problem.

Are you subbed to My Little Box, how are you feeling about the subscription service?

I cancelled mine last year but got another 3 boxes sub for Xmas. Then after that MLB emailed saying do you want to stay we will add extra items from previous boxes in the next three. Well that was dangerous- of course I want. I looove receiving non beauty items and this is the only box (to my knowledge) that does that. I am not always sure whst to do with them but they make perfect gifts. having said that I am not sure with which box to replace it..

That’s a good deal, especially if you didn’t already receive the items in a previous box. I used to love the lifestyle items too, but feel like they’re starting to not suit everyone, the first boxes contained jewellery, notepads, hair bobbles the stuff that the vast majority of people could use. But the past few have either been a bit crappy quality in my opinion (the photoframe was so flimsy, my cushion needed washing as it stunk and the print half rubbed away in the wash) or things that I don’t have a use for or like in this case the lingerie holder just isn’t going to fit things in with me. I’m throwing half my box in the bin or giving it away as it doesn’t suit me each month. One thing that really makes me grind my teeth is the value that they attach to the life style items. For example the canvas bag that was in January’s box had a value of £15… I don’t know who is coming up with these figures, it just seems like the pluck a value out of the air to claim the box is worth £XX, but infact in reality you’d never pay what they’re claiming the item to be worth! A lot of what I used to love about this box was down to the lifestyle items, because often if we’re comparing beauty items other boxes offer more items and usually better value too – so now I’m not loving the lifestyle side of this as much it’s lost it’s sparkle. If you like receiving makeup over haircare/skincare (usually 1/5 products is either haircare or skincare, the rest makeup) I’d recommend Look Incredible. Great Value for money IMO and always full size items!

I cancelled my subscription in January as it had lost its appeal to me too. I wouldn’t have been happy with this month’s box either…it’s a shame as the concept is great and it was fab at the start!

Yeah I agree – up until September I loved it and each month it’s pretty much gone down – the last box I liked was Decembers, and that was a one off in the past 8!

      • April 19, 2016 / 5:31 pm

        It’s such a shame. 🙁 January’s was a shocker with that £15 bag!!! 😂

          • April 19, 2016 / 5:47 pm

That it literally what I thought!!! Lol! And the Primark bags are waaaaaay better quality!

Yeah kinda debating whether to cancel. Same reasons, I loved the lifestyle stuff but it does feel cheap now and a lack of thought going in to it. Like you say the prices seem crazy! I did love it and now each month feel a bit let down and also end up either binning stuff or giving it away. xx

Yeah I think I need to admit it’s time to let go and stop holding on to what it was. It’s like a bad boyfriend I just can’t let go of after he took me on so many great holidays haha! Oh good, I’m glad I’m not the only person who is wearing thin with this, I was starting to feel like it was just me

That’s good you reached out to the CS and they’re sending you something else in place of the Nails Inc. I hope it’s something you’ll like and use!
I have to say, everything is presented beautifully in this box but at the end of the day what did you really receive? A pouch you won’t use? A hotel sized shower gel? A cardboard box planter thingy? I guess these are questions you have to ask yourself if you want to continue.

    • April 20, 2016 / 6:31 am

Yup I fully agree! The sized of the items are poor compared to other boxes and a shower gel that will give me a handful of uses doesn’t make me excited. Sadly that seems to be the way that this box has gone now

A tricky one: i totally agree it looks cute and lovely, but I am not sure it is really worth it for the contents of the box. Curious to see what item you’ll get as a little extra though.

I don’t think I’ve fallen out of love with this box as much as you, but I have to say the products this month especially haven’t been fantastic! I’m not sure how the cardboard planter works out as £7… Do you know of any other lifestyle boxes that ship to the UK? 🙂

    • April 20, 2016 / 12:52 pm

Exactly – packs of cress… 50p in wilkos! Are you looking for just lifestyle or a lifestyle/beauty split? If Lifestyle & Beauty I’m not so sure on – Bright Paper Packages is a good lifestyle one, I haven’t tried it myself but it looks good from what I’ve seen. Becca from inmypost does a lot of subscription reviews from lifestyle/beauty genres, her blog might we worth a peruse!

      • April 20, 2016 / 1:00 pm

        Excellent thanks Rachael – I’ll have a look! x

thanks for the mention! I always come check out your My Little Box reviews but at the moment not too tempted to subscribe – we’ll see how the year pans out. Bright Paper Packages is fab and often has one beauty related product in the box. On the beauty side, happier with Love Me Beauty at the moment (had a haul or Rodial and Caudalie, followed by Make Up Forever this month).

        • April 29, 2016 / 12:29 pm

No problem Becca 🙂 I’m almost 100% certain next month will be my last My Little Box – just isn’t doing it for me any more. I did re-sub to Love Me Beauty this month as a one off as the MUFE HD powder had been on my hitlist for ages, thought I’d take the opportunity to try it cheaper with the whole box than a full size product. Have been keeping my eye on it and still feels like they have for the most part the same brands as when I was subbed last year!

God, everything in this box, and the packaging, is so cute!! I have Nails Inc. Tate 😀 Nice that they’re sending you something else after they made that mistake.
