February 2016 Empties Part 1: Makeup & Haircare

My empties seem to get bigger and bigger each month, and they’re coming later and later as they’re becoming a bigger commitment to sit down and write. I’m thinking next month I might film these instead!

It’s another 2 Parter this month, with Makeup and Haircare today, and fragrance and skincare coming straight up tomorrow!

MUA Pressed Powder in Medium

This has been in my collection for a long long time, I’ve not bought anything from MUA since they launched pretty much so it shows that this probably shouldn’t be in my collection now. I tried using this up this month, but I don’t like the texture and it just came off really orangey. For a £1 it wasn’t worth effort of trying to make use of it

Repurchase? No

Makeup Revolution Translucent Powder

I love this powder, I must have used up about 5 since last year, and it’s been in my win my favourites post which shows just how much I like it. I won’t talk too much about it as I’ve spoken about it lots before. but for a £2 powder you can’t go far wrong with this.

Poundland’s Makeup Gallery Good To Glow Bronzer

Last year I did a post called the £5 face featuring 5 products from Poundland and I decided to get rid of this. Completely orange, unflattering on the skin and applied very patchily. Similarly to the MUA powder it wasn’t worth the effort, or clutter in my drawer as I’ve never going to reach for it!

TheBalm Put A Lid On It Shadow Primer (review)

Since I received this sample back in September, it’s been my go to eyeshadow primer. It’s lasted me this long and boy am I disappointed it’s ran out. This has blown Urban Decay’s primer potion out of the water for me. I have two primers to use, but I’ll go back to this as soon as they’re finished up.

Repurchase? Yes, but have others to use up in the meantime

Maybelline Lash Sensational (review)

This mascara only got better with age, to start with I thought it was good, but it had a honeymoon period of about 2 weeks after about 6 weeks where it was incredible. From there it was a downhill slope of gloopy clumpiness. This was good for a drugstore mascara as a high end mascara lover, but it doesn’t beat some other mascaras for me.

Repurchase? Probably not, have about 20 mascaras at the moment and there’s things I’ve liked more. As a high end mascara lover normally though, this did impress me for a drugstore.

Kiko Volume Attraction Mascara (review)

I liked this mascara from Kiko and I managed to pick this up at a right steal at under £4 – simiarily to the Lash Sensational it wasn’t enough to convince me to ditch other mascaras in favour of this. And in fact I found it also dried up quite quickly.

Repurchase? Like above have lots of other mascaras + dried up too quickly!

Benefit They’re Real Lash Primer (review)

This was terrible, it added absolutely nothing to my lashes. If you check out my review you’ll see that the side with none of this product underneath mascara actually looked marginally better than the side which used the primer. I haven’t seen a positive review of this at all. Stay clear.

Repurchase? Absolutely not.

Model Co More Brows (review)

Love this, I don’t need a lot of extra definition or colour in my brows, but this just fills in in the few patched where it looks a little bit sparse. I’ve found it difficult to get a cool toned off black brown colour product to match up with my natural colour, but this is perfect. I can’t imagine another product that will replace this for me.

Repurchase? Already have another on the go

Benefit They’re Real Liner

This is my third sample of this product and I still can’t get the bloody thing to work well for me. Difficult to use and I’ve found the product doesn’t easily create a smooth flicked out line. I’ve tried hard every time I’ve got a sample of this to make it work, but I just can’t do it any more. If I end up with a forth sample it’s being passed over or binned!

Repurchase? No!

Haircare

Lee Stafford Hot Shots Blonde Treatment (review)

An intensive hair toner to get blonde locks back to their former glory by removing Brassy tones. I spoke about this already recently so check out my review if you’re interested.

Repurchase? Still have some to use up

Parlor Smoothing Blowout Spray

Supposed to detangle and smooth out hair when blowdrying people had told me just how much they’d liked this but in no way did this help detangle my hair at all. I ended using this up by after I had detangled my hair, using it before blowdrying. I didn’t notice my hair looked any different from when I used it, to when I didn’t so for that it gets a big thumbs down.

Repurchase? No

Art Naturals Argan Oil Hair Mask (review)

I was kindly sent this to review and it was a good hair mask, but personally found it quite pricey for how many uses I got out of it, and I’m not sure on reflection that it’s any better than any other mask that I’ve tried. Good, but not incredible – and for £17 I want it to be incredible.

Repurchase? Probably not

Bleach London Silver Shampoo (review)

A good more frequent treatment for keeping brassy tones away. I did find after a while it didn’t work as well as it did when I first started using it, whether that was the deterioration of the toner that’s in my hair or the product just didn’t work as well. I’ve repurchased a different blonde shampoo as I couldn’t get hold of this in the Boots I was in, but I might go back to it at some point in the future.

Repurchase? Maybe, but currently have another blonde shampoo on the go and they last me months so not immediately.

Lee Stafford Coco Loco Blow and Go Genius Lotion (review)

This is a miracle product, solving almost every hair problem I’ve got, heat protects, smooths and detangles to name but a few things it combats. When I forget to use it I noticed how much more difficult it was to brush through my hair, and my hair didn’t look as smooth either.

Repurchase? Already have!

That’s part one done! Let me know if you’ve tried any of these before and what your thoughts are on them.

So you’re not really on board with the Lash Sensational anymore huh?

    • March 13, 2016 / 8:41 pm

I like it for a drugstore, but it’s not enough to convince me to swap other high end ones in favour for it. I’ve also tried a few from covergirl that I got in America that hands down beats it, need to wait for these lash extensions to come off to review it though!

I’m so surprised! I hadn’t seen your They’re Real Primer review but I totally get why after seeing your side by side photos. They’re Real has been my go to lately for any time I wear lipstick instead of a normal mascara and I keep getting compliments on it. Sorry you didn’t have the same experience! 🙁

You wear lipstick instead of a normal mascara?! Guessing that’s a typo but made me chuckle after a long day Ha Ha, no didn’t work out for me – thought it was terrible as you can see!

Hahaha now I kinda wanna try that actually. But I’m trying to learn the balance of a strong lip with more neutral eyes so the primer on its own works well for me. 🙂 glad I could give you a good laugh!

Looks like lots of “no” for repurchasing, and all of the ones you like and have repurchased are UK brand like Makeup Revolution and Lee Stafford that I can’t buy locally. Boo! 😛

This was very informativr, thank you! I totally agree with you on all the benefit they’re real line. I haven’t found one of that paticular line that I like but i do love their roller lash mascara

    • March 14, 2016 / 5:19 pm

I didn’t get on with that either, made my lashes look spidery, the one product I’ve truly loved from Benefit was ‘Shelaq’ and that was discontinued! Determined to find another product I like too – but the hunt is still on!
