Happy Sunday! Getting a post up this weekend has proved quite an effort – let alone catching up on next week’s posts so I have less to do after work this week (and I know I’ve got a bloody busy week too!) I decided whilst I’m sat here after a marathon session of wrapping presents (about half are done!) and before I’m about to go wrap birthday presents for my boyfriend as it’s his tomorrow, I’d take a little break and do the Christmas Tag! I haven’t been tagged to do this, I was just feeling festive, feel free to join in.
1. What is your favorite Christmas film?
It’s a toss up between Elf and A Muppets Christmas Carol, I’ve not watched either this year yet!
2. Have you ever had a White Christmas?
Not that I recall, we don’t really get snow in December in the UK, it normally seems to fall around my birthday in late January/early February. Last year it did snow a little on Boxing day – that’s the closest I can ever remember it coming to Christmas!
3. Where do you usually spend your holiday?
For the past 5 years it’s been split between my boyfriends family and my family. This year we’ve decided rather than split Christmas Day in two we’d do one full day at one, one full day at another. This year we’re at my boyfriends parent’s house with his parents, sister, grandparents & uncle before heading to my parents late on Christmas Day to stay over before a full day at theirs on Boxing Day with them and my sister and her partner. We’re then hosting the next 2 days before heading all over the shop to other family members we will have missed out.
4. What is your favorite Christmas song?
The Pogues, Fairy Tale of New York. or Mariah (but that’s just a given right!?)
5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
Nope. no matter how much my sister and I begged we were always told no! I think once we were allowed to open a present that was in an envelope from a neighbour… Jeez my mum was mean.
6. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
I don’t know how many there is meant to be but here’s who I can remember.
Donna, Blitzen, Rudolph, Dancer, Prancer, I feel like there’s at least 2 missing.
7. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?
My favourite part about Christmas is late night board games (like 3AM).
8. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Real! Has to be!
9. What is your all-time favorite holiday food/sweet treat?
I do love Christmas Pudding (with a healthy does of brandy butter)
10. Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?
I like both in all honesty – I love seeing people’s faces when I’ve picked things for them – but I do like receiving gifts and seeing what people have picked for me too. But if the presents weren’t there I wouldn’t be too bothered, it’s such a small part of our day – I prefer the food and board games!
11. What is the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?
I’ve received a lot of amazing presents, the SLR camera I got 5 years ago I still use today, Tickets to Concerts and West End Shows are always good as it’s a memory that stays with you.
As a child I loved this gift:
Vet Barbie, which came with a cat, dog and a pet bed which made noises – I used to want to be a vet, but I have ended up with a beagle.
12. What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
I don’t think I’d ever like to be away from home over Christmas – relaxing without the stress of going to work and travelling is the best bit about the festive period! I would like to visit new york in the run up to Christmas though one year. Maybe a week or two before.
13. Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?
I’m a pro. I’m very fussy with what paper I buy, making sure it all matches up without being identical. This year I have a gold and white theme, last year navy and silver…
14. Most memorable Holiday moment?
It’s not a nice one unfortunately, but I think it will stay with me for a long time to come. 2 years ago my Grandad was in hospital over Christmas – we all took turns with making sure he wasn’t alone on Christmas Day, my boyfriend and I went to visit him in the morning, he wasn’t the easiest man to talk to but whilst there he was so chatty and we had one of the nicest and longest chats ever, as we left his Christmas dinner arrived, and a present from the hospital, which was lovely but he hated the Lynx gift set! Boxing Day came and we were all called to the hospital and he passed after half an hour as we all got there. It’s a nice Christmas memory tainted by the obvious end, but he went peacefully, surrounded by family and we couldn’t have asked for better care from the hospital.
15. What made you realize the truth about Santa?
I honestly can’t remember, but me and my sister realised around the same age that he wasn’t bringing giant socks to our house stuffed with presents. My sister is about 18 months younger than me, and my mum clocked on to the fact I didn’t believe and asked me if my sister still did as if she didn’t we wouldn’t get stockings anymore and the presents would go under the tree. I told my mum she did believe in santa, and then told my sister to play along otherwise we wouldn’t get as many presents. So sneaky!
16. Do you make New Years resolutions? Do you stick to them?
I have intentions – like drink more water, but I don’t have a you must drink 2 litres of water a day for example. This year I want to start healthy eating from January again as since going on holiday in October, I’ve slipped back into old routines.
17. What makes the holidays special for you?
No television, Time with family, chilling out, eating good food, drinking copious amounts of wine and board games!
Feel free to join in with the Christmas Cheer and do this tag!
