Paco Rabanne Olympea Review

Paco Rabanne Olympea Review

Paco Rabanne Olympea has quickly become my go to fragrance of choice at the moment, and it’s the first perfume in a long time which I’ve been getting a lot of questions on when I’ve been wearing it.

Warning, I may have gone a bit OTT with the pictures in this post, but the bottle is so beautiful, I wanted to make sure I captured it every light.

So on the note of the bottle – let’s talk packaging, when I heard Paco Rabanne were launching a sister fragrance to their male counter path ‘Invictus’ shaped like a trophy, it’s a fragrance I have smelt and quite liked a lot – but I’d never consider buying it because it’s just a little bit too tacky looking – they say don’t judge a book on it’s cover, but sometimes you just can’t help it.

But this I think is anything but tacky – it’s a nice mix of on trend rose gold, partnered with the classic grecian design that both are inspired by – topped with a faceted glass lid, it creates one swoon worthy bottle. At least in my opinion.

So onto the important part, what it smells like! The top notes of this are ginger, water jasmine and mandarin – so overall it’s not dominated by one particular type of scent, it’s fruity, spicy and floral all in one. With mid notes of vanilla & salt and base notes of ambergris, cashmere wood & sandalwood. I personally would describe it overall as a sweet but warm fragrance. I asked my boyfriend for his opinions other than ‘nice’ and he said sweet, vanilla and warming – so we pretty much agree on that front!

Having took a sample of this on holiday with me after receiving a decent sized sample at the bloggers festival I purposefully saved it for my holiday at the start of October, and now as soon as I smell it, it’s very reminiscent of that holiday and brings happy memories flooding back. I’ve never had a perfume which I associate with a place or time before, but I’ll be trying this again if I buy a new perfume and saving it for a special occasion, it’s a nice feeling.

I’m trying not to wear this perfume every day, as at the moment because I think I’m still not 100% used to the scent being associated with me, can still smell it on myself a good 8 hours after applying. I’d say it’s very noticeable for the first 2 or 3 hours, but I’ve still had compliments on this way after I’ve applied it towards the end of the work day, with the warm base notes being the scent which lingers most of course.

I think this would make a really nice gift for someone, whilst both my mum and mother in law have complimented me on this, it’s not one I think for the vast majority of people over 35 may wear, it doesn’t seem very ‘mumsy’. But if you were buying for a girlfriend, friend or sister I think it would be a fairly safe bet.
