October 2015 Empties Part 1: Makeup, Nails & Face

Yet another empties that starts with a comment about “jeez I can’t believe how many products I used up this month”, but it’s another month where the statement is definitely true! I really made the effort (particularly in the shower department) to make sure I was using up the last dregs of products in order to declutter before Christmas. So it’s another empties post which is split into a few parts!

Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (Reviewed here)

This is by far my favourite foundation discovery for the past 2 years and I’m really sad to say that it’s as empty as I can manage to get it, I’ve had all sorts of brushes inside scraping the sides! I won’t talk too much about it, as I did an in depth review of it here, but it makes the skin look very natural, with a matte texture, but still retaining a nice glow and I find it really long wearing – even on my  combo skin. I will repurchase this (or the new 4k version) – but have a bit of a foundation overflow problem at the moment so will try and restrain myself and finish a few up first before. Although I am sad not to have it during the christmas period as it is a product which makes me feel like my makeup is at it’s best – I give it a week before I’ve crumbled and repurchased!

Dior Ultra Gloss Reflect Lipgloss in 317

This month I invested in some new lipstick storage as my acrylic racks were overflowing and causing a very messy dressing table! and as I was organising products into drawers I stumbled upon this, I noticed that it was nearly empty so decided to finish it up. It’s a very pretty sparkly nude shade that looks great layered over other shades – but this is the reason I normally hate lipglosses. It’s so darn sticky my hair just blows into it and I feel a mess after 5 minutes of walking outside with it on.

Repurchase? No

The Body Shop Instablur Primer (Review here)

I won’t talk about this too much as it’s been fully reviewed here – and featured in an empties – this is my second tube of this primer, it’s such an odd consistency, but I find it works really well in smoothing over pores and making the skin feel ultra smooth – and keeping oil at bay through the day.

Repurchase? Already have (Plus a second for a giveaway I’m planning for the end of the year)

Maybelline Dr Rescue Topcoat (Review here)

Another product that was also worthy of it’s own dedicated review, this is a BRILLIANT budget topcoat that for me rivals the likes of seche vite. Whilst it is half the price the bottle is also signficantly smaller so in terms of cost it doesn’t work out vastly cheaper – but in terms of a product which is more easily available (at least in the UK) this is a great option.

Face skincare

Clean and Clear Advantage Spot Control Treatment Gel

And the award for the longest product name is…. ! There’s not much to say about this, a average at best spot treatment that I certainly wouldn’t use the word ‘fast action’ to describe as this does!

Repurchase? No

Simple Kind to Skin Illuminating Radiance Cream

I was really really glad to see that I had finished this – you know when you get so sick of the sight of a product – this was my nemesis to finish. I’ve thought for the past year that it was almost finished and every day it gave me more and more product – it’s been my daily moisturiser for most days for 2 years after receiving in a Glossybox. It’s thick cream that still feels light on the skin – and has some iridescence to it which is noticeable – until  you put makeup on and then I can’t really tell the effect of it. I’m really glad it’s finished and I can make a start of the stash of other ones I’ve received in beauty boxes!

Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Melting Cleanser, 3 in 1 Cleansing Gelee (Review here)

No sorry, award for the longest product name goes to… ! Another product which has already had it’s own dedicated review, I did really like this cleanser, the smell, the texture and the effects of leaving the skin clear and cleaning away makeup effectively are all what I look for in a cleanser – BUT, it isn’t cheap at £22 and I found that actually when I was using it once daily I probably had about a months worth of use from it in total and I don’t think I got good enough value for the expense.

Repurchase? No, however I know the brand is cheaper in America so I would check it out if you can get your hands on it cheaper than I can!

Garnier Micellar Water

Everyone knows about this, I have no idea how many of these I have finished up this year but it’s the best micellar water in my opinion when you factor in the size of bottle and how much it is.

Repurchase? Already have

Bioderma Micellar Water

I think we’re programmed to think something that because a product is more expensive it’s going to work better, and that’s the way I certainly used to feel about Bioderma, but actually when I received this TINY sample in last months Birchbox – and I compared is side by side to my Garnier – I really can’t tell the difference anymore, it removed even the most stubborn of mascaras the same.

Repurchase? No

That’s part one over, I think there might end up being not one, but two more empties post this month so I don’t make them super long (because I’m a rambler!) I’ve got a post that I worked really hard on for the past few weeks going up tomorrow – so I hope you’ll all stay tuned for that and the empties post will continue on Wednesday!

Have you used any of these products before?

The MUFe foundation looks great and I have heard some good stuff about the new version. Quite curious to try that.

When I bought this one the new one had just come out and it was a toss up whether to get the new one which I knew nothing about or whether to stick with the one I’d heard good things about! It is a lovely foundation – especially for this time of year when I want to look and feel my best!

Oh I can imagine you picked this if the other one was only just out. Always better to wait for proper reviews before you purchase an expensive base.

I really want to try the garnier micellar water! How much did you get it for? 🙂

I don’t think Bioderma is that great either, and I agree, just because it’s more expensive, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better.
Are you going to try the MUFE Ultra HD foundation?

It’s fine – it does the job, but so does everything else so the premium isn’t warranted for me! Yes I do want to try it, aiming to get at least one finished before I buy another as my drawer is overflowing at the moment!

I kinda feel the Bioderma is over-hyped too…
