I’m finally beginning to get around to reviewing the vast number of NYX products I bought about a month ago. One of the ones I was most excited to receive was the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copenhagen – you’ll know if you’ve been around all year that I have been loving liquid lipsticks, especially matte ones – but they’re not the easiest item to get your hands on in the UK (without spending over 20 quid), so it tempted me to buy lots of shades from the line – but I decided to try the formula before committing to too many and ending up disappointed!
The shade Copenhagen is a deep rich berry red – I don’t like the scent of these too much with a very fake vanilla, rather than MAC’s scent this smells quite sickly and it’s much more intense. I can forgive the scent though as the product itself I love.
Being a very dark shade I find that one coat of this can go a little patchy, but with a second coat – just applying over the areas where it can look a little less opaque it becomes perfect. Rather than the formula itself – I think it’s down to the applicator which seems to have a bit of a crater in the middle, meaning that some of it comes out it patches, and it’s not easy to spread out in one go because it starts locking into place straight away.
Initially it’s not matte – I would say it takes about 20 minutes for it to fully mattify, it does feel a little drying on the lips and it’s not the most silky of matte finishes, but for a budget product I certainly won’t complain. Wear time is really good, and pretty much lasts up until the point where I eat or drink. It’s not one I find will last well through doing that – but I’ve now been wearing for 5 hours and haven’t had anything to eat or drink (probably why in retrospect I’m starting to get a headache), and it’s still on looking absolutely perfect.
Overall I really like these, they’re not my favourite ever liquid lipsticks – the OFRA ones still hold that place in my heart, but as a product I can now get my hands on, and is very affordable there’s really nothing to complain about here, and I’m planning on picking up some more – hopefully they’ll have some nice deep purples and I really want to try that very pale neutral shade with a 90s grey undertone.
