Beauty #TBT – Sephora by OPI Metro Chic

Sephora by OPI Metro Chic

It’s time for a new series on my blog – inspired by Lucie’s Product Rediscoveries during her month long no buy – but it got me thinking about products I used to love but have got lost from my daily routine or forgotten, products I have loved way before I started blogging and have been neglected to be spoken about – and limited edition/discontinued products that I’ve always felt odd talking about since you can no longer get them. So once a week I can now throw one these into the a beauty #TBT post, and one which is defiantly  worthy of a throwback is this nail polish – Sephora by OPI Metro Chic.

If you’ve been reading/watching beauty gurus for as long as I have you’ll remember the name Lollipop26, now Laura of buynow/bloglater, but used to make videos under the name of Lollipop26 – now I just have to refer to when she stopped making videos… 2010. Jeez that makes me feel old. But if you did watch her videos you can’t fail to have heard her talking about Metro Chic from Sephora by OPI. Or Vodka & Caviar by OPI for that matter – but that’s another Beauty TBT post!

This whole line for Sephora has now been discontinued completely and replaced by the Formula X line. When my sister went to New York 3 years ago I asked her to go to Sephora and get me some of these polishes – and this is by far my most worn and favourite of the time.

The colour feels very of the moment… for 5 years ago and it’s one which I would have worn a lot back then, but it’s never one which I gravitate towards now. Metro Chic is a cool toned  chocolate brown creme which depending on the light can look deeper or more milky – when the whole ‘nude’ trends were really in their prime this would have been a great darker alternative, but still very on trend – now it feels a little dated.

The formula of this does take 3 coats as application can be a little patchy, I fricking hate the brushes on this line – I prefer a wide flat brush and these are long and thin – which makes for an awkward and lengthy application. But when it dries it’s so lovely and glossy, it’s pictured here with no topcoat on at all – but could easily be mistaken for having a coat of something on.

Wear time is pretty good – 4 days with a base coat but no topcoat, the line was the normal kind of quality I’d expect from OPI. I really wish we could get the formula x polishes shipped to us in the UK but sadly their off bounds in the UK – but I’ve heard they’re incredible. I’m heading to Valencia in the summer for a Hen Party and I’ll ensuring I defiantely get to the Sephora to be picking a lot up (I’ve already started saving!)

sephora-metro-chic-swatchDid you own any polishes from the Sephora by Opi Line? Or if you have any Formula X Recommendations – please let me know.

So funny this is now a TBT item – I remember so vividly when this was released and the hype around it. I never did get the original SOPI (as it was fondly referred to) but I did get the dupe from Rimmel. And I’m not sure I have no less than 3 other dupes in my stash at the moment. I do love greige colours. I wonder who makes Sephora’s Formula X polishes now?

I just tried to have a little search for who makes them but can’t seem to find anyone spilling the beans! I don’t actually think that I have anything too similar to this shade, or the other two from the line either actually! Have you got any of the formula X?
