100% Pure Pigmented Fruit Lip Glaze in Velveteen

100% Pure Pigmented Fruit Lip Glaze

I’ll admit that I had low expectations of this lipstick that I received in my October Birchbox – the brand name ‘100% Pure‘ doesn’t exactly allude to a high quality brand. But it’s one that’s been in my handbag for almost 2 weeks now and I must say I’m finding myself reaching for it quite a bit!

This rather than being a lipstick is a lip glaze – the formula from this brand is not surprisingly made from 100% natural ingredients. I was expecting that bring a glaze it was going to be a sheer wash of colour across the lips but it’s quite the opposite – the pigment in this product is gorgeous and the glaze more refers to the very glossy formula that this has.

When first applied this feels and looks very balmy, it’s very moisturising on the lips and it’s as far away from being drying as possible. Within an hour it almost completely changes formula, the balminess either sinks in to the lips or wears away – I haven’t quite decided which yet, but the finish changes to being quite matte, but the pigmentation doesn’t wear away at all. This lipstick, sorry ‘lip glaze’ is fairly well wearing at about 4 hours – after 2 or so the colour does start to wear away but I never find that it goes patchy, just a gradual fade.

The quality of the cardboard packaging which accompanies this is nice although personally think the design/font choices etc are a little amateurish, but that’s coming from someone who is overly critical about design because it’s my job! The silver tube is long and narrow, with a silver metal packaging, the lid has a satisfying click when put back on too – for those who get as much pleasure from such things as I do!

The colour I received in my Birchbox was ‘Velveteen’ in the tube it looks like a nude with a roses undertone – but on the lips it’s more of a mid pink tone that’s toned down with a nude base. I’ve been wearing this a lot and sometimes have been pairing it with my fleur de force written in the stars lipgloss, which takes it to being a perfect halfway house between a pink and a nude.

These aren’t particularly cheap with a £16.50/$25 price tag – I’ve said before when brands charge this much when they’re not an established name (we’re talking more than MAC here) that I would struggle to justify the added expense. Benefits that go with this is that it’s creulty free and vegan – so should you be in that boat expecting to spend more because you want these things then I would check it out… Otherwise I’m not 100% sure (get it?) that it’s worth it.

Love the color but the price is a little tricky. I get that natural/vegan might cost a little more, but this seems like a lot for a tinted balm.

Yes I agree, I think when you’re charging in excess of about £12 you really have to be extrodinary or established – this is very nice, but not nice enough for the cash

Definitely! Brands get so carried away these days with the idea that people will pay as long as it says organic somewhere.

Strange development. I am sure they will realise the error eventually, but it might take some time. xx

This looks interesting, also smaller brands often have higher production costs as they can’t mass produce like the big brands do.

True never thought of it that way – still unfortunately don’t think that the cost justifies what you get as you can’t help but compare to other products at the same price x
