Real Techniques Deluxe Gift Set Review

Last weekend I managed to grab myself a total bargain with the Real Techniques Deluxe Gift Set in Superdrug, reduced to £20 – I had £5 of points saved up + a voucher left lingering from my birthday which I’d totally forgotten about, meaning I picked this up for a mere fiver.

There’s a few brushes that I’ve defiantly been missing from my collection and this pretty much completes what I needed (other than something similar to the NARS Ita Contour brush), and at such a good price it was impossible to resist.

The brushes as usual are what I’ve come to expect from Real Techniques, high quality and supersoft – and always washing really well. This Christmas set has given the brushes a makeover and instead of the metallic matte finish the brushes are a super shiny coloured chrome which I love, I wish they were all like this! I’ve been using the whole set for about a week now so here’s what you get inside and my thoughts on each brush…

Glam To Go Clutch

When I saw this was in the set I thought it would be a jazzed up brush storage, like what comes with the bigger kits in their regular line. Inside there’s no specific storage – and it’s just a normal clutch, very cheap feeling. I’m not sure who would really use this with Real Techniques emblazoned across the front as a clutch – for me this is probably either going in the giveaway pile (to package something) or in the bin.

Multi-Task Brush

Designed for powder, blush and bronzer – this looks quite densely packed with brissles but compared to others is quite light. For that reason it works quite well for the heavy handed and makes it easy to get a nice even amount of colour. I’ve most been using this as a highlighter brush for a natural glow as especially when I’m half awake in the mornings I do go over the top when it comes to highlighter and this helps counter balance my heavy handedness.

Tapered Foundation Brush (Exclusive Brush to Set)

I’m not normally a massive fan of foundation brushes but I do quite like this one. It’s a very rigid brush, depending on the foundation it can make getting an even coverage more difficult and definitely isn’t a catch all brush for foundation on the ones I’ve tried (but that’s normally the case for all foundations with me, some I like with beauty blenders, buffing brushes or my fingers). This has been working nicely with my go-to foundation at the moment MUFE HD foundation, however personally I still prefer to use my fingers, I always feel clumsy using a brush – but that’s personal preference.

Angled Highlighter Brush (Exclusive Brush to Set)

I really love this little brush. it’s great for using in areas which you like to highlight which are a bit smaller such as down the nose or wanting a more precise contour across the top of the cheekbones. One of the things I like it most for is continuing my highlight onto my brow bone, it’s the perfect size for filling between my brows and my eye socket.

Base Shadow Brush

I’ve never seen this one before, but apparently it’s not exclusive to the set, it’s described as a brush to pack on your main colour onto your lid, I think it’s a bit too fluffy for that and I prefer their ‘shading brush’ for that. It is nice for putting colour into the socket and using to blend together all your shadows. I’m going to try and get my hands on a couple more of these as I’m finding that I’m reaching for it a lot and could do with a couple more to see me between washes!

Fine Liner Brush

I used to have one of these which I used to use every day to do my liner with, I’ve since found other brushes which I like more for every day (such as their Bold Metals Angled Liner brush), but I always need more liner brushes as my gel eyeliner sets after one use, so unless I clean it immediately it’s basically unusable until I get around to washing it. Spare liner brushes aren’t a bad thing, but it won’t be the first that I reach for.

I’d really recommend this set whether you’re purchasing for yourself, but also I think it would make a really nice gift for any budding makeup enthusiasts. Normally priced at £30 – I think that would be a bit more than I’d want to pay (if you compare that with the Core Collection where they’re roughly £20 – or even cheaper on Amazon), as I think the extra expense means you’d be paying for the clutch.

This is the first set that I’ve bought – I’ve always bought them singularly. Think I might treat myself to the core collection after Christmas, although my Brush collection is getting a bit ridiculous! x

I saw this at our local drugstore for close to $50!
But, I already own a few of the brushes in this set so it wasn’t worth it to me. It’d make a great gift though.

I was about to say I love the RT setting brush but Lucie beat me to it! I also love all the other brushes from their collection that I own, to be honest. They’re the ones I reach for the most!

They seem to be the most reliable in my collection I’ve had some since the line first launched and there as good as new still! X
