Boots Haul – NYX and Fragrance

I’ve said before about the huge number of Boots points that have been building up on my Boots Card, there’s been points where I’ve had more on my Boots Advantage Card than I have had in my bank account! When you end up saving those points for so long though it does become had to spend them, I got to the point where I was actually considering saving for a new SLR camera, realising this would take me roughly 6 years at the same rate of progress, I decided to go on a big spending spree. Especially on the announcement that NYX was now available in Boots (A brand which has always been had to get a hold of in the UK – stockists which were supposed to stock it last year never had the items in stock). So here is my entirely self indulgent, and completely guilt free haul, as I didn’t spend a penny (and still have points on my card)!

Paco Rabanne Olympea Set – 50ml Perfume and 100ml Body Lotion

boots-olympea

The gift set worked out slightly cheaper that purchasing the 50ml perfume by itself, plus online there was an exclusive extra 10% off perfume sets, which meant I could pick this up a whole lot cheaper than anywhere else.  I got a generous sized sample of this last month at the Bloggers Festival and saved it to take on holiday with me, I kind of knew that meant it was going to become a scent I would associate with holiday as I’d never used it before and I’d end up buying it and that’s exactly what happened. I’ve still had some of my mini bottle spare and have been carrying it in my handbag. Every time I’ve gone to spritz myself at work it’s bought back happy memories of Egypt followed by wafts of depression that I’m no longer on holiday and my Beyonce tan is fading. It’s a very sweet fragrance, it reminds me of a less floral version of Victor and Rolf’s Flowerbomb, give this a whiff if you like sweet feminine fragrances.

And then NYX.

NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Sticks in Milk and Sparkle Leopard (£5 Each)

nyx-jumbo-eyeshadow-leopard-sparkle-milk

The NYX jumbo eyeshadow stick in milk is one which I feel is important to have. I’ve watched it be used by XSparkage in her tutorials for years so it was a no brainer that I had to get one for myself. Given we’ve never had a NYX and the only things I have are a couple of lipsticks which I found randomly in my local CCO, it meant I really didn’t have a shopping list as I’ve not paid too much attention to them specifically given I couldn’t actually buy it.

This meant I was googling swatches of every product and shade, the shade Sparkle Leopard also jumped out at me as a gorgeous bronzey metallic shade with silver glitter running though. I love eyeshadow sticks and don’t have anything comparable to this and I know I’ll get a lot of wear out of it.

NYX Eyeshadows – Club Crawling (£3.50) and Prismatic Eyeshadow in Liquid Gold (£5)

It was tough deciding between all the eyeshdaows, I wanted to go for things I felt were missing from my collection rather than getting the same kind of neutral shades I already have too many of – especially before I’ve tested NYX for myself and deciding whether I like them or not! I decided to opt for Club Crawling which is a gorgeous cool toned taupe satin shade, which actually reminds me quite a bit of one I got from Poundland in a post I did called the £5 face, but the formulation was terrible – but this one is great in comparison. I also wanted to try one from the Prismatic line, all the swatches of this smaller collection looked gorgeous, I decided to go with Liquid Gold – it’s totally not a Gold at all, it’s a bronze, but the formulation is so silky and metallic, it reminds me so much of MAC or Urban Decay shadows.

NYX Matte Lipsticks in Aria (Purple) and Alabama (Red) – (£5 each)

I’ve been preferring Matte Lips at the moment so picking from the Matte line was the natural choice for trying out some lipsticks. I’m a bit disappointed with both of these shades as they both looked very different online. Aria looked like a deeper purple with only a hint of pink – it’s very much like MAC Rebel or The Body Shop 240 Lipstick, it’s brighter than I was hoping for and wanted a real rich colour for autumn that was again different to things I already have. Alabama looked like a deeper more brown red, maybe this will look different on my face than it does in the bullet or on my arm. Hopefully the formulation will make up for it.

NYX Soft Matt Lip Cream in Copenhagen (£6)

I’ve been loving liquid lipsticks for fuss free, long lasting lips – I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a real deep berry red for autumn, that I don’t have to worry about budging or smudging. I’m hoping I love the formulation of this as there’s a few I’d like to try from NYX including a gorgeous grey (which was sadly out of stock!) – but I wanted to check it had the long lasting qualities I’ve become accustomed to with other Liquid Lipsticks. I’ve not worn this yet, but the colour is exactly what I’ve been hoping for!

Eco Tools Body and Contour Brush

Lastly not strictly from Boots (I’m not sure if they stock this brush, if so I’ve never noticed it) but I spied this in TK Maxx – I’ve had this in my amazon basket for ages as I’ve been wanting the ITA contour brush from NARS but haven’t wanted to spend £40 on it. I thought I would give this a go, it was cheap on amazon at about £8, but was even cheaper in TK Maxx at £3.99. Holding out paid off!

Just a word of warning about the NYX Jumbo pencils – they aren’t the most crease-proof pencils. Apply a thin layer and I would suggest wearing an eyelid primer underneath them first.
I have that same Ecotools brush – It’s a LOT bigger than the Nars ITA brush. I wouldn’t say it’s particularly good for contouring. I use it all the time to blend out my whole face after I’m done my blush / powder.

I am glad I saw it in person as I think I would have been a bit confused as to why it’s so big! I think I’ll probably end up doing the same, which isn’t a bad thing as I only have one brush I do that with at the moment!
I’ve been wearing the Leopard Sparkle today and so far it’s fine, I did apply a primer though as I was going to use the shadows then realised I was running late for work and needed to be quick haha!

MMM, those NYX shadows and THAT GLOSS (OMG) look beautiful. I have one of those jumbo liners and I’m really impressed with how smooth it glides onto the water line. Great choices!

Seeing all your NYX products has just made me so excited to get to a Boots! I’ve always wanted to try their stuff but it was never available in Scotland until now! I love the look of Aria though, and I hope it wears better for you on your lips than on your arm or in the bullet.

I think (I might be wrong) that it’s currently online only at boots – annoying I know! At least it’s progress! Other than the 2 lipsticks everything else I’ve bought was pretty accurate swatch wise compared online to in person 😊

Damn! Internet only? Ah well, can’t complain 🙂 I’m glad it worked out for you most mostly.

        • November 3, 2015 / 6:52 pm

I’m sure when I placed the order the banners on the website said online only – might be worth double checking though!

I did, online only *sighs* ah well. How long did delivery take for you?

          • November 3, 2015 / 10:20 pm

If you order online you can get it free to any store by the next day (midday latest) – when I’ve had physical delivered to home in the past it’s taken 4/5 days I think (with a weekend gap 🙂 )

I’ll give that a look into, I’m in need of some new lipsticks anyway so I’ll give it all a look this week. 🙂
