My Little Creative Box – October 2015 – Unboxing & Review

Is it me, or are these My Little Boxes arriving later and later each month? Mine did arrive a few days past the allocated date that they gave, but given that’s the first time in over a year of subscription, when it comes from France, we’ll let it slide.        my-little-creative-box-review-unboxing

This month sees the transition away from the beautifully illustrated lids by Kanko, which seems a bit odd given the theme of this month’s box is Creativity and MLB have partnered with Pinterest. I’ll start by saying, I do not get the theme this month at all, I was really excited when I heard the theme this month, thinking we’d get lots of crafty bits to make life a whole lot more creative and beauty bits to inspire us to be more creative with our makeup. When I saw the partnership with pinterest I thought we were going to get products related to cool hair tutorials and nail art for example. But reality didn’t quite match expectation.

The box features a usual print and magazine from My Little Boxes.

Creative Item Number 1: Canvas Tote Bag

my-little-box-bag-the-creative-box-october-2015

Okay, A Canvas Tote bag – always handy to have I guess. Featuring the quote ‘Collect Moments not things’ on one side and a giant My Little Box Logo on the other. For this type of shopper it does feel a little small. The thing that annoys me most is that MLB have bought back the RRPs on their own brand items. So Ladies this has an RRP of £15. I think they’re mad.

Creative Item Number 2: Tech Jewellery

I feel like tech jewellery is a fancy way of calling it a earphone repair kit… this is kind of handy, but creative? Not so much. Another extraordinary RRP of £16.

Creative Item Number 3: My Little Beauty Creme De Minuit (Night Cream)

my-little-beauty-october-2015-night-cream

Okay this was the first item that I pulled out of the separate beauty bag. I thought I got this… A night cream to help you get your beauty sleep and recharge your creative batteries. I don’t actually own a specific night cream, as you’ll see in a few days in my new ‘bedside beauty’ blogpost, so this will be nice to have. I do generally like the My Little Beauty Products, so hopefully this will be another welcome product from their range to add to my collection. RRP £15.

Creative Item Number 4: Baija Hydrating Body Cream Fleur de Tiare

my-little-creative-box-baija-cream

Second item I draw out of the bag, a body cream. This was the point where they lost me. Containing Shea butter, coconut oil, beeswax and jojaba, this sounds perfect for keeping dry autumn winter skin at bay. I do question the fragrance though, whilst it’s lovely it’s also very summery for almost November described as being inspired by the south pacific island of Tahiti’s blue lagoons and it’s floral evening air, Nothing screams autumn more right? Packaging is pretty though. RRP £12.90 or Euros – it has both symbols on the sheet so I’m not sure which, either way it’s a bit steep for product of this size.

Creative Item Number 5: Polaar La Veritable Creme De Laponie (Hand Cream)

my-little-creative-box-polaar-hand-cream

Holy crap. Another cream, whilst I was alone I think I did shout what the hell out loud at this one. I do love a hand cream and at the moment I have the things coming out of my ears! Pretty much the polar opposite of the tropical scents of the body lotion – this is a ‘Genuine Lapland Handcream’ designed to help keep hands from the coldest climates soft through winter. This does have a light scent, and a thick but non greasy formula. I do look forward to putting this to the test through wither especially as with a £16.90 RRP this is way more than I’d normally spend so I’m expecting big things!

This is the first box that I feel completely unenthusiastic by. If I’d received one of the beauty items in another box singularly I would have been really excited to receive it. I do find it a little difficult to be excited by 3 out of 3 products being creams, especially when the theme is Creativity, a pamper theme maybe. Probably part of my disappointment is just how I geared myself up on the box, and the thought of things I thought I was going to receive didn’t appear at all.

If you’re thinking of subscribing this is a really ill representation of the subscription check my post ‘The My Little Box Archive’ to see what I’ve received in the box – I’ve been subscribed since it’s been running in the UK you should get a better indication of the contents in that post – click here to see the archive. Hopefully this isn’t a downwards spiral of my favourite subscription box…

What do you think of this months box?

You are lucky to receive a hand cream. I got a similar shade blue like couple months ago. I would get a repetetive nude-ish colour but blue! Doesn’t associate with autumn at all (only if you think about freezing hands until i can hug my cup of coffee). I can’t wear that in the office. I was so excited about MLB at the beginning but I am glad I’m not the only one thinking they’re going downhill.. I also subscribe a Glossybox but thought to keep both as MLB offers slight quirkiness to it and not only beauty products. Any ideas for replacement??
P.S. I see that usefulness of beads but I am not 12 to get excited..

If you add blue nail varnish it makes more sense!

      • October 25, 2015 / 7:37 am

Blue nail varnish does make a little more sense, haven’t seen anyone else’s reviews yet, what brand was it?

    • October 25, 2015 / 7:36 am

I used to be subbed to glossybox for 3 years and just found that the brands seemed to get worse each time – my first box contained full size Nars and illumasqua! The only other box I’m subscribed to at the moment is love me beauty, I’m not really enjoying it at the moment but that’s more because I’ve seen a lot of what’s available to pick (you choose the items) before, I’m giving that until next month to decide whether to have a break from that for a while, but it is worth looking into if you’ve never subscribed 🙂

I also got the nail varnish. I used it and it was terrible. Chipped… Well not even chipped, pealed off in a matter of hours. Wish I’d had the hand cream

      • October 26, 2015 / 8:45 pm

It’s still laying in my untried pile from when I got it a few months ago! Shame as I don’t dislike the colour all too much!

It’s called loved by sarah lavone. I am not a nail varnish expert I love OPI and ORLY so normally stick with those unless I get different brands in the boxes. I’ve been a glossy subscriber for 2 months only, but love it so far and using all the products. I was also looking into cohorted box as they started monthly subscriptions (i was never lucky to get one off box), especially when I saw what they offered previously!

    • October 25, 2015 / 12:07 pm

Ahh, I think I got that in a previous box – maybe that’s why I didn’t get it this time! The loved by line is a bit misleading as its another my little beauty brand under a different label! Sneaky as then you get 2 own brand products without realising it! I’ve only ever had one cohorted box but I’m thinking of starting for the December box – they’ve already released what brands will be in the November box and I think I’ll skip for £35!

I am going to give another go, it seems there was a massive disappointment in the box this month. Hopefully MLB took all the comments on board. I give away products that don’t suit me or I don’t like, but just realised i’ve done that with last 2 boxes and was left with one thing. However with Christmas coming I started saving some stuff wich I will use for gifts and save money in that way. I have so many body lotions that weren’t even opened, and I am so bad that I still go and buy some (huge sigh). I love sanctuary’s night one for winter. It says that the ingredients should make you sleep better, but given that the smell is so strong I just use for cold period. Doesn’t make me more sleepy than I would be normally. Have a go!

Yes mine is getting later and later too, I have it delivered to work and I was bugging the post room lady for a good two days before it appeared. I knew she didn’t have it as she would certainly have let me know, but it just seemed too long from being told it was shipped.

I got almost the same as you – love the bag, hate the earphone things I think they look like beads from a 99p shop, like the midnight cream, haven’t yet tried the body cream but my third item was a foam face cleanser and I was quite pleased with it. All in all, a let down of a box though, I thought a creative theme could have asked so much more of us rather than them, give us a couple of crafts to try or challenges with hashtags to live up to, that kind of thing.

I still have enough love for my little box to carry on, but this did feel a bit lame. Not even just “I can see other people would love that it’s not quite my taste”, which is how I’ve felt in the past when it’s not hit the mark for me but more a bit where did the wow go?

    • October 25, 2015 / 5:39 pm

Yes that matches how I’m feeling too, that’s what I always try to think if I get a shade that doesn’t suit me for example, rather than moan cause I got light rather than medium I think we’ll I would like this if I was lighter skinned etc. I love the box so much normally I think I’ll give it to January to see if it picks back up – maybe it’s been a bad one or two! Xx

Mine was really late. I was excited by the theme but was very disappointed with this box! 😕
I got nail varnish instead of hand cream and was not really fussed about the bag or the beads. Hope the next one is better!

    • October 25, 2015 / 8:24 pm

I’ve heard from others about the polish and I think I received the same polish in a past box – I think those who already received either got a hand cream or foaming cleanser. This seems like the first box where there’s been a bit of variety with what people get. I don’t mind the bag, I’ll probably keep it in my car with the 5p bag charge and try to remember to take it with me if I nip into a shop – but the RRP price tag that comes with it makes me laugh when you can get the same thing in Primark for about a pound! Thanks for reading:) x

I got slightly different beauty products (details on my blog). This is the fourth month the box has been late for me. For a creative box, this didn’t feel very creative, some arty stuff or diy jewellery, or nail art pens would have been more in keeping. You can buy similar canvas bags for £5 so they’re definitely charging too much.
Glossybox has had fullsize products every month for the last few months and Birchbox has upped its game, making MLB look worse than ever.

    • October 26, 2015 / 8:49 pm

It seems like they’re clearing out all the old stuff, as I’ve been subbed from the start of it I seem to have got all ‘fresh’ products – I’ve received the talika cream on a mlb before, not the oil though! Totally agree about the creativity aspect, past boxes have done a better job!

    • October 26, 2015 / 10:33 pm

Your items are awesome! I am not sure how this works-one gets nail varnish £6.5 Rrp compared to oil for £43! I get the variety and slight tailoring based on the questionnaire but I would expect similar brands, just different for your needs. Seems like last month everyone git a cc (or was it bb cream?), i got a serum for oily skin which is great. But it was the same brand..

      • October 26, 2015 / 10:35 pm

I can’t remember what I got last month but I don’t think it was a cc or bb cream. I’ve had some rather pants boxes. They need to tighten it up and make it fairer, people will complain.

        • October 26, 2015 / 11:18 pm

Last month I got the BB cream (la Roche posay), mini kerasase hairspray and the red liquid lipstick! I can see the point in having a bit of variety as long as people haven’t received the same thing before, but the value should be roughly the same of each, it’s not fair everyone pays the same and gets boxes which are wildly different values in my opinion!

          • October 26, 2015 / 11:20 pm

Agreed, some months I see other people’s on blogs and am really annoyed at the difference in quality.
