MAC Vamplify Lipglosses – 2 Shades Tried and Tested

If you saw my Lust List for Duty Free shopping you’ll know that I had my eye on getting some of the new lipgloss formulation from MAC called Vamplify. All sold out online I was keeping my fingers and toes crossed that there might be an odd shade or two still lingering and the duty free counter. When I got there there was only one sold out which meant that I could get both the shades I had been eyeing online.

It was tough not to go crazy with so many still being available, but I’m not a massive lip gloss wearer and as I didn’t know how much I’d like them I didn’t want to buy 5 of the things and discover I hated the formulation or they didn’t last. Now I’m kicking myself as it’s one of the first lipglosses I’ve bought that I do actually like.

These have such brilliant pigmentation like a liquid lipstick with the gloss of a lipgloss. The thing I hate about lipglosses is normally not brilliant pigmentation and that sticky feeling that they leave behind. Yes these do have a hint of that texture but they’re smooth and glossy – the very slight stickiness that they do have fades quite quickly and just leaves behind the colour with a very glossy finish. I was quite glad that I’d picked up a neutral shade and the second to darkest shade as it meant I could see if the formula was any different/performance was any better.

Tuned In

I knew I wanted to get a neutral that I could wear all year round – and I’m so glad that I chose Tuned In. It is quite a deep brown rose toned nude which does look like a colour rather than a ‘your lips but better’ shade. Baring in mind that currently I am quite tanned at the moment having just returned from sunbathing for 10 days, this still looks quite dark on my skin. I’ll be interested to see how this transitions as my tan starts to fade (sob) on a paler autumnal complexion as I think it will be a gorgeous deep rich neutral perfect for the time of year.

Peer Pressure

I wanted a shade that was going to get a lot of use going into autumn and had a tough time deciding between the two deep reds which were in the collection. I opted for Peer Pressure as it reminded me of the only gloss in my collection which previously has gotten a lot of love – NARS Bad Education, which is almost empty. This is a true cool toned berry red and if Autumn was a colour I think it would be this. It does look quite dark and a little scary in the tube, but it applies paler. As this wears away it almost leaves a stain behind on the lips too, which is good as I hate the idea of a red wearing patchily, it normally puts me off!). Because it’s a rich deep hue I do find I have to be a little more careful when applying this compared to Tuned In as it is a little patchy, but a quick second layer solves any worries and even adds a more intense gloss.

These don’t last ages on the lips – but when does a lipgloss? I’d say between 2-3 hours depending on what you’re doing, both leave a tint behind once all the gloss has done, Peer Pressure’s is just a lot more obvious to the eye compared to Tuned In.

I love the packaging to look at, but the only comment I have on them is that I wish the tubes were shorter and stumpier to give a smaller wand as I find it a little difficult to control being so long. Apart from that these are probably my perfect gloss. I hope MAC make these a permanent feature in their line, or we’ll see more of them in limited edition collections in future.

Are you a lipgloss lover or hater? Have you tried the Vamplify glosses?

I’ve basically only been wearing tuned in since buying them – peer pressure is gorgeous but I think I’ll get most west from it from November! If you can get them do!

Never even HEARD that MAC released these Vamplify glosses – huh! I like the shade Tuned In a lot! Normally MAC’s lipglosses are sticky – I dislike them a lot. I’ve pretty much stopped buying glosses in favour of balms.

No I think it was a pretty Low key launch from MAC, I only discovered it when I was looking around for what brands were at the airport and then what new stuff I could check out from each brand! Over the past 5 years I can probably count on one hand the number of glosses I’ve bought (other than the FDF and these which are exceptions)
