Freedom Makeup Candy Sweet Lipstick – Swatch & Review

When Freedom Makeup launched back in (refers to notes….) June, there was very little to go on in terms of swatches, I made my order on the day of brand launch so there was no reviews/swatches anywhere to be seen. They were pinning themselves as ‘MAC for the Masses’, and when I saw a lipstick called Candy Sweet I immediately made the connection to MAC’s Candy Yum Yum, a lipstick I’ve always been tempted by – but knew for how often I would use it I probably didn’t want to spend £15.50.

Opting to take a gamble on Freedom Makeup’s £1 lipstick to see how it compared to swatches online, sadly this isn’t as bright as MAC’s – but still, a lipstick for £1 can’t bring too much disappointment. Where Candy Yum Yum is pretty much a neon shade with very blue and barbie-ish hues, Candy Sweet is quite muted in comparison. It looks brighter in the bullet to how it appears on the lips, but it’s a wearable bright pink.

The first application of this is quite a sheer wash of colour, but it can be built up to be brighter. The formulation is creamy and rich, which doesn’t feel drying on the lips at all and leaves a semi glossy look which catches the light beautifully. This doesn’t have tremendous staying power, but for £1, you don’t expect to get 8 hour wear out of a lipstick. Saying that it is comparable to MAC shades with similar finishes (reminds me of Cremesheen) – and will last between 2-4 hours on the lips before needing to reapply.

Overall I’m a fan of this lipstick, it’s not my most favourite lipstick, but it is certainly one I will get a lot of wear out of. Because it’s build-able and you can have quite a sheer wash of colour or build it up so it’s brighter as I’ve pictured, it’s quite good for keeping in your handbag as you have one product which you can create more than one look with.

I’ve reviewed the 2 other Freedom shades I’ve picked up already Freedom Born With It Lipstick (MAC Viva Glam Cyndi dupe!) and their Pro Butter Lipgloss in Sugar Fix. Make sure you check those out if you’re thinking of ordering some lip products, especially the Born With It, that’s one of my favourite discoveries of the year!

Have you tried the freedom line yet? Let me know anything you’ve tried good or bad as I’m planning on trying some more stuff from the line soon!
