Exuviance Purifying Clay Mask Review – Face Mask Friday #13

I was trying hard to resist trying this until I’d finished at least one other Face Mask in my collection, but my mitts couldn’t resist trying out the Exuviance Purifying Clay Mask for very long after receiving this at the bloggers festival.

After talking to the ladies on the stand and listening to my skin problems, being that my skin is mostly fine other than being oily – but prone to random breakouts which don’t seem to be linked to stress, my monthly cycle or anything else in particular. The Excuviance team recommended their face mask to help tackle the task of normalising my skin after my skin is covered in a breakout. Little did they know I also love a face mask and testing new ones out.

Excuviance is a new brand to the UK sold in salons, but it’s a brand which has made it’s way from across the pond. Focusing on Dermatologist tested skincare creating high quality products to solve skin problems.

Claiming to detoxify oily and acne prone skin this mask will pamper, purify  – leaving skin feeling clean, pores clearer and your complexion looking brighter and clearer. Containing PHAs to aid in hydrating the skin and pro vitamins to condition and provide antioxidant protection. With Kaolin acid helping to absorb oils on the surface of the skin, papaya extract assists in gently exfoliating the skin’s surface.

I wanted to try this pre-holiday, to check a couple of things, whether I had any reactions to it, and if it would help draw out impurities from the skin in a way that can cause you to break out more before skin gets better – because I don’t want to be going on holiday with a breakout I had made worse/allergic reaction!

I tried this at a time where my skin was pretty much behaving itself and almost back to normal, other than a few of those little bumps which aren’t spots but stop your skin from looking super smooth. The mask looks and feels like a traditional clay mask – I always give face masks a postman friendliness rating- in a bright pastel minty blue that is completely opaque, it looks a little like you’re wearing face paint. Opening the door to your post and delivery men wearing this might gain you a few strange looks.

In terms of the scent it does have a fragrance but it’s light fruity, nothing too in your face so those with sensitive skins should be okay. I found that after applying this did tingle and was a little bit uncomfortable but not unbearable, for the first 5 minutes, after that the sensation changed to feeling quite cool instead – before the clay completely dried after about 15 minutes after application.

Straight away my skin felt felling very smooth, and I’m not sure if I was imagining it, but blackheads on my nose and chin seemed to have been reduced in number too. The next morning those pesky bumps were pretty much all gone and my skin was looking masses better than it has in a month. 3 days on I’ve seen reduced oil on my skin and my makeup has been staying in place the whole day without the need for a powder midway through. Whilst I haven’t tried it yet, I think this would work really well as a spot treatment and the next time I feel like I’ve got one erupting, I’ll be turning to this to see if it can help reduce it straight away.

The Exuviance Purifying Clay Mask isn’t the cheapest mask, in a fairly small bottle of 74ml (although a little goes a long way) with a rrp of £33 – I have seen online for £24. But out of all the face masks I have used so far in my Face Mask Friday series, I think this has to be my favourite.

I’m so impressed with this that I’m eager to try more from the line, if you’ve tried anything please let me know what you’d recommend!

Have you heard of Exuviance?

I’ve definitely heard of the brand. I used some makeup remover from them and it smelled incredible. I’ve seen the line at Ulta.
