Received in my September Cohorted Beauty Box, I was so excited to have this lip pencil. NARS is a brand which I only have a few things from, it’s not very accessible where I live so never want to splash my cash online without seeing some products in person first, and I never remember to take a gander at the counters when I’m near one.
Receiving the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in the shade Walkyrie made me feel quite spoilt. Not only was it a NARS product, but it was in a shade which would suit pretty much every body. On first inspection (let’s blame it on the sun was setting) I thought this was quite a rosey nude shade but it’s much more of a red based warm toned brown.
This reminds me of the 90s lip trend which is growing in popularity. I’ve not embraced this trend yet, so I was happy to have something to try. I love the formulation of this is matt, it takes a little while to lock and set into place whilst still retaining the feel of a normal lipstick. This doesn’t dry the lips out at all, and nor does it have a dry feel to the touch and it feels very comfortable to wear all day. I’ve tried the OFRA liquid lipsticks at lot recently which are my all time favourite lip product, but they do tend to feel a little uncomfortable as they feel so matte. This does not.
This wears really nicely throughout the day, and I found applying for work at 8 ish in the morning I could eat and drink to around 3pm before the lipstick was pretty much gone. The pigmentation of this does fade after eating, but it wears gracefully without the worry that it’s smudging everywhere or becoming patchy.
I love the formulation of these Velvet Matte lipsticks and would thoroughly recommend them, I’ve been looking for a good matte berry red for autumn that I don’t have to worry about budging or smudging with, and I’m going to have a look at this line for the shades – possibly Train Bleu… let me know if you’ve tried this.
It’s NARS so of course these don’t retail on the cheap side at £19 each. But I would happily pay that for a shades I’d know I’d get a lot of wear out of.
