August Empties 2015 Part 2 – Body, Face & Hair Care

If you missed part 1 of my August empties yesterday featuring makeup and fragrance, check it out here. This is a post – containing all my body, face and hair care for the past month. I’m doing a cracking job of using up samples and full sizes from my stash. My goal is to be clutter free by the end of the year!

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream

I know this is a much loved and coveted product, but I just don’t like this. I’ve had this sample for a few years now, and although its tiny, I just hated using it. It’s thick and it’s greasy and leaves an oily feeling on the skin. I avoided using it in the morning as it left a sticky residue feel everywhere.

Repurchase? Hell No!

Yes Nurse Protect Your Lovely Hands Hand Cream

Received in last months Love Me Beauty, I had high expectations of this as it’s reviewed so favourably online. It did the job of moisturising but I hated the smell of this, I thought it smelt like a mix between plastic and wax. Not nice. I whizzed through this so quickly as it’s been the only hand cream I have in my collection for the majority of the month – so it’s been one that I’ve used though out the day at work, and also before I go to bed.

EcoCover Hand Cream

I found this deep buried in the bottom of my stash, I must have had this 3 or 4 years and have completely forgot about it. I don’t think you can actually buy this – I think it was just a promotional item. I ended up using it more as a body moisturiser as I found that it took too long to sink into my hands, and didn’t like feeling like I couldn’t do anything for 10 minutes while waiting for it to sink in.

Vaseline Essential Moisturiser Body Lotion

This is another product which I’ve had in my collection for a good few years, I remember my mum filled me a travel beauty bag whilst I was in uni to bring back and forth (and to probably stop nicking her stuff whilst I was at home). And this was in the bag of things. A nice moisturiser, it’s quite thick but does the job. Pretty unoffensive on all accounts as it has a light neutral scent and although thick sinks in quite well – and is very inexpensive too.

Repurchase? I would use it again if I had it, but there’s other things I prefer more if I was buying for myself

Caudalie Hand and Nail Cream

Received in the My Little Superbox in March – I really enjoyed this hand and nail cream from Caudalie. It sank in quickly, felt quite thin in consistency but spread very easily. I used this pretty much every evening for 3 months and it’s not a full sized product.

Repurchase? If I saw it again yes, but I wouldn’t actively purchase it online to get my hands on it

Duck Island Body Lotion

I’ve spoke about these a couple of times before having swiped lots of these from our hotel room when we visited Yorkshire earlier in the year. These are okay, they smell beautiful but don’t rub in very easily.

Repurchase? No

Peter Thomas Roth Mega Rich Body Lotion

I think I picked this up as a hotel freebie from a Hilton Hotel, and never thought that Peter Thomas Roth was a ‘real’ brand when I got it and thought it was a made up Hilton brand.  This was fine but was nothing special.

Repurchase? No

InstaNatural Scar and Stretch Mark Cream

Full review is going up for this this week. I was sent this to review and I didn’t find that it really did a brilliant job for how much it was. Stay tuned for the full review.

Soft and Gentle Visibly Smooth Deodorant

Supposedly meant to reduce the rate of which hair grows back. Have now used two bottles of this and haven’t really noticed a difference. I’ve now moved away from spray deodorants as much as possible. I’d still use it otherwise, on the off chance that it does help reduce hair growth.

Repurchase? No

Filogra Optima Eyes Eye Treatment

A one use sample that was too small to really tell if I liked it as I only got one use. Not sticky and sunk in quickly, but pretty pricey. I’m holding onto my youth that I still don’t need to spend a lot of money on eye creams for now, so I wouldn’t repurchase this anyway.

B. Clean Melting Gel Cleanser

I reviewed this last month here, I’m so glad to see the back of this. This was terrile at removing makeup and it never cleaned my skin properly. I always used this as a cleanser in conjunction with something else to use it up – but don’t waste your money on this. Not good.

Repurchase? No!

My Little Beauty Gommage Marin Body Scrub

Received in June’s My Little French Riviera Box – I didn’t realise I was so close to finishing this because there’s still a lot inside but it’s all stuck to the inside of the packaging. Because it’s quite a dry sea salt scrub I think what ever sticks it all together is just stuck to the side of the packaging and I can’t squeeze or move it down any more. This smells beautiful, it’s a real taste of the seaside and I really enjoyed using this. Despite the salt being very chunky it didn’t feel too abrasive on the skin.

Repurchase? Can’t repurchase My Little Beauty products even if I wanted too, but I would think about it if I could have fully used it all because it’s not super cheap.

Origins Ginzing Face Mask

I have 2 of these which I’m saving for taking on holiday with me for the flight there and back as it’s a face mask which is clear and dries quite matt, although a little sticky. I normally don’t bother with skincare on flight all that much but we’re going pretty long haul at 5 and a half hours so this should stop my skin drying out and ensure I arrive fresh. Full review of them here.

Repurchase? Yes

NSpa Facial Cloth Mask

Reviewed this face mask last friday click here to see it. This is very refreshing whilst it tingles, helping soothe and reduce a major breakout I was having. I picked up a set which contained 5 items in it for 50p, so I’m not sure as to whether it’s being discontinued, but next time I’m ASDA i’ll be buying more if I can.

Repurchase? I still have 2 more left from the kit left, but yes

Talika Photo Hydra Day Moisturiser

Received in my January My Little Energy Box – whilst this says day on it, I used it in the evening as I found it didn’t layer very well with my makeup. In terms of consistency it reminded me quite a bit of the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer, that kind of milky gel. This lasted me 3 or 4 months as my evening moisturiser and I did notice nights where I just fell asleep before getting chance to apply things when I hadn’t noticed it the next morning.

Repurchase? I have so many face moisturisers still, but if I needed to I would.

Elemis Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm

Sadly was allergic to this (contained lavender), so I couldn’t fully indulge in this as I would have liked as it’s a very thick, lovely cleansing balm. I only used this on my eyes to get makeup off really quickly – as if I left it on for a long time on my skin it made my cheeks start to get irritated.

Repurchase? Not for me!

Body Shop Early Harvest Raspberry Shower Gel

This was my first Body Shop shower gel, which I only really picked up to get a 30% discount on all my items. I really love Raspberry scents and this was no exception, unfortunately it was limited edition in spring and I don’t know if you can still get it – I did get mine from an outlet. But I would re-buy it if I could.

Repurchase? I already have 2 other shower gels in my collection so don’t need to but I would buy this scent again if I could.

Hair Care

Aussie Miracle Dry Shampoo

How many times have I spoke about this? I love this. it’s my all time favourite dry shampoo. Sadly this isn’t empty and the can is clogged up again (a recurring problem with the full sizes of these). I repurchase this over and over as I love it, but it does become even more expensive (as it’s already a pricey dry shampoo) when you have to essentially throw half of it away regularly.

Repurchase? Already have!

L’Oreal Pure Colour Shampoo

I spoke about this shampoo and conditioner duo earlier in the week and I love it. Check out the review here.

Repurchase? Already have!

Colab Sheer Invisible Dry Shampoo

Also reviewed recently, I really liked this too. The New York scent is my favourite from the Colab Line that I’ve tried and the sheer+invisible version doesn’t leave a white cast in my hair. I can only extend washing my hair by one day with this rather than with Aussie I can by 2, so it doesn’t quite beat it in terms of becoming a favourite. But I will repurchase and use this again.

Repurchase? Yes

Organic Surge 2 Minute Moisture Mask

It turns out I’ve been chatting about hair care a lot recently! This was also reviewed this week too! I picked this up in a TK Maxx haul for £3.99. It was fine, did the job and did what I wanted it to do but I didn’t think it would be worth it’s normal full price tag of £7.50. Especially as I’ve used this up within the month as I did find I needed a fair bit to spread through my hair.

Repurchase? In TK Maxx for £3.99 yes, for full price no.

Andreas Wendt Age Vital Conditioner

I’ve spoken about these before, I was given these by work to review. I liked these, but they just seemed like a normal shampoo and conditioner that wasn’t worthy of their pretty expensive price tag.

Repurchase? We were the only UK stockist and we’ve discontinued it, so I couldn’t even if I wanted to.

I’m with you on the EA 8 hr cream – greasy and STINKY. Mine sits unused in my cabinet. I tried to pawn it off to my SO but he said he smelled like old ladies.
Honestly, I’ve not heard anyone talk about the Aussie Miracle Dry Shampoo – what makes it your favourite? You should write to the brand to tell them about the problem with the nozzle. I had that happen once with a dry shampoo (used it all of 3 times) and it angered me so much I never bought that brand again!

I’ve never done a write up on the Aussie fully – which considering I review just about everything else is a bit strange. It’s totally clear, it has a slightly sticky residue when first applying – but brushes out to nothing at all whilst soaking everything up, my hair just looks and feels clean and fresh, but I find most leave a powdery residue I just don’t love. Only downside is that compared to others which are heavily scented this has barely anything (but who gets smelly hair anyway) – but I would take the fresh feel and look over a scent
