Essie Grow Stronger Base Coat Review

I’ve had this base coat from the past few weeks having seen this a few months ago recommended by Anne from Doves and Roses, I decided to give this a whirl when my favourite OPI Nail Envy stash was all out.

One of the first things I noticed about Essie’s Grow Stronger Base Coat, was how nice it was on it’s own. It isn’t a full blown colour, but does add a milky base over the nails, it almost reminds me of a slightly darker more natural version of OPI’s Bubblebath. This month I’ve worn it by itself on more than one ocassion and I’ve had comments on how healthy my nails were when I did!

My nails are a hell of a lot stronger than they were a month ago, but I’ve been taking hair supplements which have also had a massive effect on my nails (both growth and strength) so I haven’t noticed anything that’s been added by this, especially in just a few weeks. That however wasn’t really the reason that I bought a base coat, that would be an added extra.

I’ve tested over the past few weeks with the same polish, skipping nails or only using base coat on one hand to see what the difference was and it was clear every time. This helps polishes apply smoother, last longer and protects the nails from staining – and in addition in every case nail polish lasted chip free for longer.

Personally I think this is very similar to the Original OPI Nail Envy – but it’s nice to be using something different and have a change after 3+ years of being loyal to that. And this has the added bonus of having a hint of colour for lazy days too!

    1. No I haven’t, in a way yes – from someone who went from not using a base coat to using it, it helped my nails feel stronger and meant I had less breakages, I don’t necessarily think it aided in speed of growth but it just made them longer though less snapping x
