Essie Roarrrrange – Swatch & Review

Essie Roarrrrange

I was inexplainably excited to receive this polish as part of my July My Little Box (My Little Adventure Box). Do I have many an orange in my collection? Yes. Do I have any orange Essie in my collection? No! Naturally filling a gap in my collection (that probably didn’t need to be there) I was excited to give this a go, and painted my nails with it almost straight away.

Essie Roarrrrange (yes that many ‘Rs’ precisely!) is a beautiful ‘pure’ orange shade, it doesn’t lean too red or too yellow – and these types of oranges are my favourite when it comes to summer time.

I love Essie polishes as a whole, they apply well, dry quickly and last a good amount of time on my nails. I really get on with these, and have never been disappointed with any (apart from the Lack of sparkle in Essie Private Weekend). Sadly however this is the first.

The colour is as beautiful as it looks in the bottle, The first coat is almost opaque, but does have that ‘gellyish’ kind of consistency which meant any stubborn dirt under my finger nails could be seen through, but a second coat evened it all out. The polish unlike most essie’s felt very thick, it was hard to get a very thin layer, and it didn’t apply very nicely – especially when it came to adding a second coat. The first coat of this I have always found to be quick to dry, but when adding a second you have to wait forever.

I’ve painted my nails with this 2 times in a row (and made sure that yes, I was giving it enough time to dry on the second try to make sure) and sadly the experience is the same.I painted my nails with this 4 hours before going to bed, and they felt dry to the touch – but still woke up with imprints in the polish. Which is extra annoying as for the previous 3 hours it looked as if it was going to be an amazing glossy finish without the need for a topcoat. With a topcoat, as it’s pictured here, it looks great and any scuffs and print disappears luckily.

This lasts 3-4 days on the nails with Barry M Gelly (current topcoat I’m trying to use up), but with Seche Vite I’ve always known comparatively that it will tend to extend the wear time by another day. Maybe this is just a dodgy bottle, but it’s a shame as the colour of Essie Roarrrrange is so beautiful.

Have you had any disappointing ones from Essie? What are your favourites too?!

What a bummer the formula is wonky on this one – I get SO angry when my polishes used to get sheet marks when I wake up and I would have swore up and down that it was dried before I went to bed! I mean, you gave it 4 hours! That’s crazy. It is a lovely summer shade though. The orange shade i like from Essie is called Braziliant and it’s an orange with a fuchsia micro-shimmer – barely detectable but gives it a twist.

Ooh that sounds fancy, will have to check it out! A brand told me before after I posted a review and after 6 hours it wasn’t quite dry that it was normal. Is it heck! Who has time to surrender to waiting for their nails to dry! X
