Pink Parcel July 2015 – Review

Pink Parcel has always been a service which I’ve never been tempted by. When I saw My Friend Rachael’s review this month,  and saw the products she received and with the news that your first parcel would be half price it swung me over the edge.

Pink Parcel is designed to give you a lift at “that time of the month” – personally I think it would be better if all boxes arrived at the start of the month that way no one would have to avoid seeing the treats that you’ll receive in your boxes – and you’ll always be prepared if you come on a few days early (my period is particularly unpredictable). You can pick between your preferences of tampons or pads, and can even go as far picking your brand and type sanitary product, There should be plenty here to keep the average woman going – with some for night time, a big batch for later, and a little pouch to keep in your handbag – enough to store 2 or 3. What I find weird is that they don’t offer a mix, don’t people use some in some situations – some in others?

Besides your monthly cycle needs the box give you a tea bag, chocolatey treat and some beauty products to cheer you up. So onto what I got…

Less Exciting Products First… Tea & Chocolate

I Believe Most Month’s you tend to receive a chocolate bar rather than a hot chocolate stick – however this probably makes a nice change for regular subscribers. I’ll be taking both of these to work to stash in my drawer for days when I’m having a bad one in general!

Beauty Products

Green People SPF 30

I’ve been loving the Green People scrub I received in last month’s Love Me Beauty box – which was reviewed the other day. So happy to have another Green People product to try out. This is a SPF 30 – it doesn’t really say if it’s for the body (I hope not as it’s so small) or the face. I’ll be seeing if this works out under my Makeup otherwise maybe it will be a nice thing to keep in my handbag for days out (although our really nice UK weather seems to have disappeared again!)

Bandeeze Hair Bobbles pack

I’m really happy to have these as they’re my favourite type of hair tie to use and most of mine are starting to look a bit tired – and they’re still not the easiest thing to find in stores, despite them becoming more and more popular. Never causing the hair to kink after taking out, I don’t know why you would use anything else. I like the colours on these – except maybe the lips one, I don’t think I’ll wear that to work.

Organic Surge Intensive Smoothing Serum

Probably the star of the show from this box- a full sized serum worth £23.50 over double the cost of the box alone. I’ve never been convinced by serums (maybe it’s because I have oily skin and moisurisers etc I use for good measure – but never see a true difference). I’ve had a bit of a hit or miss relationship so far with Organic Surge so I’m interested to see how this performs, but I have high hopes after seeing that Rachael had been having good experiences with this on twitter and was now a serum convert due to this.

Pina Colada Cocktail Shaker Lip Balm

A little bit tacky/a little bit cool is one of my favourite combinations for cheap little treats like this. This is coconut scented Pina Colada cocktail – and actually reminds me more of a Peshwari Naan. I’ve tried this a couple of times so far and don’t find this particularly balmy or moisturising.

L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes Excess

I’ve tried another mascara from the L’Oreal Million Lashes range in the past and wasn’t that impressed so I’ll be interested to see how I get on with this version. The other version I tried was a bristle wand and this is a rubber (normally I much prefer bristle). I know people love this line, so I’m all for giving it a second chance!

I have mixed feeling about this service and if it’s really necessary. I don’t have particularly bad periods and never feel the need to indulge more in Chocolate, need copious amounts of tea, turn into a mega bitch (that I know of) or need any real pick me up. That’s the reason I’ve not been sold on this service in the past. Is that just me?

On the other side of it in terms of value for money this box is really good,Judging this as a beauty box as a whole I’d be relatively pleased. Normally £9.99 including tracked postage (this was my first so was half price) – but had a value of £44.50 + pads (thanks for doing the maths Rach so I didn’t have to!). – however I think from what I’ve seen this one in particular is better than most – Rach’s past ones include £17 & £27.

With all new services I like to give it 2 months before I decide whether I want to continue, so I will receive another Pink Parcel next month as well before making my mind up.

I really love all of your photos and I think you have persuaded me to sign up to my own Pink parcel!

I hope you like the serum! My skin is drinking the stuff up, making it much softer & easier to apply my makeup x

I’ve thought about trying this type of subscription sometime. I crave chocolate like crazy around my time of the month! Lol! xo

I crave chocolate all at times of the month 😉🍫 I’m not sure this chocolate would cure the crave though! X

I’ve been thinking about signing up for this for a while! I’m torn between this and Period Box though, although that’s a fair bit more expensive… Hmm, decisions.

Not heard of period box? Don’t think I’d love something called that landing on the doorstep! Awkward looks from the postie!

Great review! The packaging is definitely very appealing 🙂

What a cool box, definitely has a feel good factor which is what you need at that time of the month. Those hair ties are ah.maz.ing!! No more kinks which is a must! I swear by them xx

Hmm interesting concept. But I do hear you about whether this type of service is really necessary? It’s just playing into the stereotype that all women PMS and have terrible cramps and such. I’m like you, I’m lucky that I don’t have terrible periods, and I crave chocolate just about any other time of the month, not just around my period! I guess this beauty box just wanted to new marketing spin. 😛 Out of all the items in this box, I think the Green People sunscreen and the Organic Surge Intensive Smoothing Serum are the most interesting – although not sure what sunscreen has to do with “that time of the month”.

    • July 22, 2015 / 6:09 am

No I’m not sure on on sunscreen either! Not really a pick me up product but I do need a new spf so I’m not questioning it too much! Glad someone agrees as I’ve never seen anyone else say – actually is this needed?! I get it, makes them stand out from everyone else and even though the pads and tampons have a low value – they do still feel like the focus of the box so you can’t really ignore them! X
