I picked up this shiny bottle of loveliness from Topshop at the start of the month – spotted in the clearance section for £1, it would be impossible to leave behind.
Topshop Dark Knight reminds me of a brighter, bluer versions of Deborah Lippmann Across the Universe/Sally Hansen Mermaid’s Tail which I reviewed here.
By itself, this polish is pretty terrible. Which is a first for any I’ve tried from Topshop, as all I’ve had so far have been really quite good. The formulation of this is clumpy to apply, the glitter is chunky and the base is quite sticky. This needs a base coat to last more than 24 hours, and a topcoat otherwise it has a horrible semi matte effect that lacks any lustre. It needs 2 coats to look passable, and is still a little on the sheer side, I would be hesitant to add another coat as it takes ages to dry because it’s so gloopy – it’s impossible to get a thin application with this.
Personally I’ve found this works better with a coat or 2 of a similar coloured cream base with a coat of this on top. It dries faster, looks better and lasts longer, although you’ll still need a topcoat to get a nice glossy look as it will still be matte, you’ll end up with 4-5 layers of polish on with your base and top coat added – and I’m not sure that Dark Knight is really worth the effort.

Very pretty color!! 🙂 xo
Yeah, I can SEE the thickness of the those glitter! Ick, I can’t handle that. It’s an eye catching shade though!
I’ve really liked the Top Shop brushes I’ve purchased – they’re really nice and I grabbed them during a clearance sale so they were quite inexpensive.
