Empties June 2015: Skincare

45. That’s the number of empty products I’ve got in my box this month! Naturally I think that would make for the longest ever blog post, so I’ve split into 4 posts to share with you over the week. All in all, I think despite the fact I did crumble a few days in to my no spend, I think (if I do say so myself), 45 empties is pretty darn good!

First empties, is my facial skincare & makeup removers.

Dermalogica Extra Rich Sunblock SPF 30 – Samples

I had a pack of 10 of these I was given at the London 2012 olympics and I’d never even tried them! I’ve used 4 or 5 of them this month and they’ve done a great job of keeping my face free from burning. I don’t love this as a product to use underneath makeup as I think it’s a little oily, but for days when I’ve been out in the garden at home gardening/bbq building – they have been perfect!

Repurchase?: Still have some to use, but probably not as I’d go for something suitable for under makeup too

7th Heaven Blemish Mud Mask

I won’t chat too much about this as this featured in a Face Mask Friday post at the start of the month. It wasn’t my favourite from the 7th Heaven (formally Montagne Jeunesse) range, but it wasn’t the worst either. It did do a good job of soothing irritable skin, but in terms of reducing breakouts not an amazing job.

Repurchase? Probably not.

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish

Oh how I forgot I loved this. I’ve been through so many of these in the past, but moved on to try other things, so was happy to have it back in my life through my May Birchbox. A gentle cream cleanser that does better than any other I’ve tried at getting rid of makeup, quickly as well as making the skin feel moisturised and clean.

Repurchase? Not straight away as I have others to use up first, but I will do after I’ve made my way through my stash.

Malin + Goetz Grapefruit Cleanser

I’ve had a sample of this before and I enjoyed it, so happily picked up another when it became available in Love Me Beauty May 2015 Box. I like this, it doesn’t foam up too much and does a relatively good job of removing most makeup (although very stubborn gel eyeliner it struggles with for me, but most things do!)

Repurchase?: I don’t like it enough to repurchase as it’s a similar price to the Liz Earle, but wouldn’t be unhappy to get another through a beauty box!

Melvita Rose Floral Water

Not gonna lie, I had no idea how I was meant to use this so just went with the flow. I generally used it after I had washed my face in the evening after I had applied my skincare, with a spritz or 2 over the face. I used it some days religiously – then went a week or 2 without using it, and there was no difference to when I did, to when I didn’t use it. It made the skin feel refreshed, but other than that it just felt like a needless step!

Repurchase? No

Anatomicals Zap Zap Zap Gets That Chap Spot Treatment

I love anatomicals, but this hasn’t been one of my favourites that I’ve tried. It is a budget spot treatment,  but I think there is definitely better out there. Boots do an own brand one which is a couple of pounds and will get rid of any emerging spots or breakouts within hours! I also couldn’t tell the difference between the night and day – although different colours they had an almost identical consistency, smell – and neither seemed to outperform the other.

Repurchase?: No

L’Oreal Micellar Gel

I won’t talk too much about this, as I posted a full review on this here. In that post I said the only purpose of this I could see if removed subborn mascaras such as Benefit’s Roller Lash and They’re Real and it doesn’t help any more than a water. Given this is only for the eye area and although it does work on the skin (I’ve tried), it does leave a sticky feeling. Given it does no better than a Micellar Water in my experience, it’s a pointless thing to have if you already own waters, it just seemed like a way to get some more cash out of the Micellar Water obsession!

Repurchase? No

Yes To Cucumber Wipes

Receiving a sample of this through June’s Birchbox, after having already purchased the yes to carrots and blueberries in TK Maxx. When I was lazy (using wipes over Micellar waters more frequently), these were my wipes of choice. I must have used 10 packets at least of these, but I think they must have changed the formulation – making my skin hot and itchy especially on my cheeks they left me red faced. Luckily as I used them more at night – they had died down within half an hour, but these just don’t agree with my skin any more it would seem!

Repurchase? No!

Yes To Carrots Wipes

I picked these up because I’d loved the Cucumber ones in the past and wanted to give some more from the line a go. These are nice wipes, and I didn’t suffer with anything allergy wise with these, but they didn’t remove makeup as well as the cucumber versions did. These were nice if I had been doing something for a few hours makeup and just wanted to quickly refresh my face before I applied makeup. These are supposed to be hydrating – but I don’t think they were particularly!

Repurchase? No, I would buy ones which did a good job of removing makeup as well as having a  refreshing feeling

Nude ProGenius Treatment Oil

I have mixed feeling about this oil. I have oily skin and I know they’re something that is meant to help, but when you have naturally oily skin you get used to that feeling like a dirty feeling and normally I just can’t shake that feeling – this is the first which I’ve got on with and has sat on my skin well. The smell however is very spicey and I feel like a curry dish when wearing it. I’m trying to take a final whiff of it but I am full of cold! I liked it and my skin looked brighter – but given I don’t love the smell and the fact the full size of this is £58 I don’t know that I could cave with the cash to buy.

Repurchase? No, but would happily use again for free.

L’Occitaine Immortelle Precious Cream

I knew this came in a My Little Box, but was so surprised to look this up and see that this came in December’s My Little Box! I’ve used this most nights and it’s only a tiny pot, as it’s a very thick cream a little goes a long way, I kept this aside in by bedside stash and have used it most nights since December. I noticed nights where I forgot to use it completely as my skin wasn’t as hydrated in the morning.

Repurchase? Not immediately as I still have a big stash of face moisturisers, but I would consider it in future!

Clinique Smart Custom Repair Serum

A magazine freebie that I posted about last month, having forgotten to take all skincare away with me for a long weekend away, I picked this up as an emergency for whilst we were away. I used this in the morning before putting makeup on as well as in the evening. I surprisingly really liked this serum as I don’t have a massive love for Clinique skincare, I liked that it was a halfway house between a cream and gel consistency.

Repurchase?: Quite Possibly, after I’ve made my way through the ones still in my stash!

So that’s my skincare empties for the month! Have you tried any of these?

Lovely bunch of empties. I had exactly the same thing with the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish., loved it but has so many different cleansers I sort of forgot about it. Still such a great classic though.

It’s too bad the Melvita Rose Floral Water didn’t make a difference for you – I’m interested in trying some items from that line.
L’Occitaine Immortelle Precious Cream sounds divine! I need to try something from this line. So expensive though.
That’s amazing you went though 45 empties! Doesn’t it feel good to use them up? 😀

So good! Couldn’t believe it when I pulled the box out as I keep it quite high up I can’t actually see what’s in there! X
