The No Buy / Lo Buy Tag!

The lovely Stash Matters recommended this tag to me that she created on her year long no buy – it makes my month long one sound silly now – if you’re not already following – go over and support her during this difficult time of not indulging in new cosmetics! But here’s my No Buy/Lo Buy Tag:

1. When did you start your No Buy / Lo Buy? How long is your No Buy / Lo Buy going to last?

I started my no-buy at the start of April, I’m only attempting a month at this point having never done one before, but I hope to do them more frequently!

2. Why did you decide to go on a No Buy / Lo Buy?

Project BBQ, which I talked about here, and just in general I have a lot of un-necessary stash that I’m not storing for any reason – I’m just storing because I can’t get through it because there is always new stuff coming in beauty boxes – I’m also a total magpie – shiny and new is always more attractive to me that going back over my stash!

3. Have you ever attempted a No Buy / Lo Buy before? If so, how did it go?

Nope – I’m a no buy virgin!

4. What do you hope to achieve with your No Buy / Lo Buy?

I’m hoping to go through everything in my stash, rediscover products I forgot I had and loved, as well as have a clearout of products which I don’t use and donate them – also covered in my introduction to no-buy post!

5. What product(s) have you hit pan on since starting the Makeup No Buy?

Nothing yet! To be honest I don’t think I will either as it’s only a month long one – a lot of the products which I use regularly currently are either relatively new, or I have already hit pan on before starting!

6. Do you have more empties because of it? What product do you miss the most?

I tend to have quite a lot of empties each month anyway, around 20 products (a mix of full size and samples) per month is normal for me! I’m almost mid-way through the month and I currently have 6, so I’m on par for it to be average!

7. Do you think you can survive the ban from makeup?

See question 9.

8. What is the one product you envy right now but can’t get? For eyes? For lips? And for face?

There’s nothing yet that has really struck me as needing it desperately, I think I will finish my Better Than Sex Mascara over the next week or so, and I will miss that when it runs out, but I do have others in my collection I can use.

9. Have you cheated and bought something already?

It depends if you class still receiving beauty boxes as cheating! I’m going to receive 3 this month, Birchbox, Love Me Beauty and My Little Box – mostly because they’re always my most popular in a month in terms of bringing in new readers and views, and I’d decided late last month that I was starting this, so didn’t have time to plan to cancel. Also I’m hoping this alone curbs my need to buy anything else on top! I also went out the day before starting and picked up everything I knew I would need, such as nail polish remover which I had none left of.

I caved and bought some items in the Freedom Makeup launch only 3.5 days into the ban but that was something that was pre-warned. I know, that’s utterly terrible, but I knew if I didn’t I would only cave after day 20 or something, so I decided to do it early and extend my spending ban into July.

10. After your No Buy / Lo Buy, are you planning a big haul? What are you going to buy?

I’m not intentionally planning a big haul, especially after a month as that would have been completely counterproductive and I won’t have gained anything.

I can’t really tag any one else – as I don’t know any one else who is doing a no buy – but please feel free to use this if you fancy doing one yourself, or tag someone who is doing a no-buy!

Yes, it IS a difficult time for me! **Sniff Sniff** 😉
Thanks so much for doing this Tag! Your month long no buy is very admirable.
Oh haha, I love the phrase”I’m also a total magpie – shiny and new is always more attractive to me” – SO apt!
You do have a healthy number of empties, I really like reading yours since it’s got a little bit of everything. It shows you actually USE the products, not just play around with them (and considering you have access to so many products!).
Did you do a post on the Freedom Makeup items?
No, I don’t think beauty boxes count – you need SOME form of outlet through these dark days! 😛

Did a haul of the freedom ones yesterday but no full reviews yet – only received them Wednesday! I think I might do another month – I’ve got so many products which are on their last legs, it’s helping me clear through them all – I’ll see where I am at the end of the month, may need to buy a nail base coat though – I’m now all out! X

Well, the no-buy does allow for replacements of products that you’ve completely run out. The intent of the no-buy is to curb all the extra spending on buy 20 “different” taupe eye shadows or buying things just because they were on sale. 😛 We’re ALL guilty of that!
Good that you’re considering another month. I’ve found that it’s gotten a lot easier as time goes on – it’s like I’ve formed a new habit, to scrutinize my wish lists and really consider why I’d want to buy something.

Yeah – I think I can cope without it for now, I want to test my spending habits to the maximum now, I never used to use base coat religiously up until January, so I should be able to cope, it’s just come apart of my routine!

I think I’m gonna attempt a no buy in July, especially since I’m working less over the summer and will have less money!! So I might come back and steal this then haha.

I started selling Avon eleven years ago to help support my makeup habit. Reasoning that I got most of my cosmetics at a great discount, I bought everything that tickled my fancy. At one point, I realized that I had 32 shades of lipstick. I figured that I’d better pull myself together before my girlfriends hosted an intervention! I’m bracing myself for a No Buy July; wish me luck! <3

Only 32? Haha I probably have 100 lip products 😕 – I know what you mean though do I need 20 vibrant pinks? No! But they’re so different!
