Stash Stocktake: Haircare

Welcome to the first in my Stash Stocktake posts, as part of my no buy month, I’m planning on going through everything in my collection, having a clean out of products I don’t love or use – and hopefully by the end of the month I will have a large box of goods to donate to a local women’s refuge/shelter. These posts are image heavy and quite long, I have a big stashes of most things to prewarn you!

Haircare is probably the product I hate storing most in my collection as the packaging is naturally bigger and chunkier than anything else other than basics such as shampoo & conditioner, dry shampoo and hairspray – I haven’t bought any hair care in such a long time. I’ve had a lot of my build up come from beauty boxes – often their not suited to my hair or I don’t style my hair in a way to use the products. So thought this would be a good first point to begin my clear-out.

FOR KEEPS

These are products I either use religiously or are duplicates I will get use out of once I’ve finished others

L'Oreal Pure Colour Shampoo and Conditioner
L’Oreal Pure Colour Shampoo and Conditioner

These are new, I’ve had really dry hair recently that’s having the tendancy to go really frizzy – so bought these to try and get it tamed and smooth again!

Andreas Wendt Age Vital Shampoo & Conditioner x 2
Andreas Wendt Age Vital Shampoo & Conditioner x 2

I was given these to review, I’m almost finished one set – yet to start the other, I’m still not sure how I feel on them yet – hense no review as of yet!

gary-sunderland-love-potion-shampoo-conditioner
Gary Sunderland Love Potion Shampoo and Conditioner

I reviewed these at the start of April here, and I still haven’t finished them. The shampoo is a great cleansing shampoo, which is good – but means it only gets used once a week/2 weeks.

hair-mask-collection

Hair Masks:  Charles Worthington Moisture Seal is a raved about product and I want to love – but find it just sticks in my hair! My Little Beauty Masque is brilliant, yet another product from MLB that I will be disappointed when it’s gone! No 4 Lumiere d’Hiver a sample from last months Birchbox which I’ve yet to use Tresemme Keratin Smooth isn’t a hair mask but a styling product, I’ve had a sample before and didn’t love – I will give it another go before writing it off completely.

hair-treatments
Novex Brazilian Keratin Treatment & Superdrug Coconut Oil

I’ve never given the Novex sample the time of day, completely forgotten that I had it! Received in the ‘world’ Glossybox that came out last year, Not sure what it is, will have to do some reading up! I bought this when Coconut oil was all the range a few years ago, and I’m sorry to say that I don’t love it. I find it really difficult to wash out – my hair just feels greasy afterwards, any tips for this let me know!

andreas-wend-the-stylist-philip-b-oud-royal
Heat Protectors: Andreas Wendt The Stylist, Philip B Oud Royal Heat Protectant Spray

Another Andreas Wendt product given for review, The Stylist is a fab product, can’t really comment as to whether it’s good a heat protecting – who really knows, but it does a really good job of making my hair easy to brush through. Combined with the Wet Brush, these are a great duo. Philip B Oud Royal, I picked this up in the staff sale for something silly like 50p, I’ve yet to try this out.

Sea Salt Sprays: Lee Stafford Beach Babe Spray, Parlor Sea Salt Spray
Sea Salt Sprays: Lee Stafford Beach Babe Spray, Parlor Sea Salt Spray

I completely forgot I had this Lee Stafford Spray until recently, it was put in my car as an emergency hair styling thing ages ago. Parlor Sea Salt Spray, I’ve been using this since I got it in last month’s Birchbox, and it’s great for adding a bit of texture to my hair and helping my natural waves hold better.

hair-oils-serums
Hair Oils & Serums: Toni & Guy Serum, L’Oreal Mythic Oil, Frizz Ease Serum x 2

I either use a hair oil or serum – but never both together as I find that they make me need to wash my hair faster – and essentially do the same job. I like the Toni and Guy one – but haven’t used it for a long time. I love L’Oreal Mythic Oil I’ve had this for a long time now receiving in one of my first Glossyboxes – I use one pump of this every time I wash my hair. It’s also great for giving a glossy more relaxed finish to freshly curled hair. 2 Frizz Ease serums but in different bottles, I’ve always thought that these are the same product in different packaging.

Toni & Guy Leave in Conditioner, Bed Head Ego Boost
Toni & Guy Leave in Conditioner, Bed Head Ego Boost

These are the most neglected products in my stash, they’re never a product which I remember to use. I’m going to make an effort to use these up as they’re both mostly empty! I don’t love the Toni & Guy one, and never have been enamoured with it. I do like Ego Boost as it’s a split end “mender” (hider) too and makes the hair look noticeably better.

Schwarzkopf Got2B Rise & Shine Hairspray, Aussie Miracle Dry Shampoo
Schwarzkopf Got2B Rise & Shine Hairspray, Aussie Miracle Dry Shampoo

If I had to get rid of all my hair products, these would be the 2 I’d need to immediately repurchase. I’ve talked about the Aussie way too much, it’s fab – no other dry shampoo compares for me! The rise and shine is a brilliant hairspray, adding shine, volume and hold – it easily brushes out if needed or stays in place until told otherwise.

styling-products-hair
Bed Head After Party, Paul Mitchell Round Trip, Percy & Read Wonder Balm

After Party is an old, but still very much a great favourite, perfect for stopping frizz and smoothing out curls. Paul Mitchell Round Trip, I need to try this, I think I’ve only ever tried it once! Wonder Balm is a product which I sometimes use instead of a Oil, they don’t do the same job entirely, this smooths and adds a bit of body, but doesn’t do the same repairing as an oil does.

FOR DONATING

Products I know I won’t use, or don’t like for myself so happily passing on

bed-head-superstar-aicha-argan-oil
Bed Head Superstar, Aicha Argan Oil

Bed Head Superstar is never a product which I’ve got on with well, for a big pumped up blow dry – this is normally what I like, but just find it weighs my hair down more rather than giving more money! Aicha Argan Oil, I wanted to try a ‘proper’ argan oil from my hair in terms of one which is 100% argan oil – like the bed head, I think it just weighs my hair down. More of a body product I think, but I don’t love oils on my body either.

Umberto Gianni Straightening Gunk, Toni & Guy Leave in Conditioning Gelee, Toni & Guy No Kinks Smoothing Balm
Umberto Gianni Gunk Straightening Cream, Toni & Guy Leave in Conditioning Gelee, Toni & Guy No Kinks Smoothing Balm

Why you would call a straightening cream Gunk I do not know, but that is an accurate description of how this feels in your hair too. No idea how this product is meant to work, so off it goes to hopefully find someone who knows how to use it! These 2 Toni& Guy products I was given as a gift and have never used as I’ve never liked the sound of either!

KMS HairStay, Paul Mitchell Awapuchi Mist, Frizz Ease Dream Curls
KMS HairStay, Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Moisture Mist, Frizz Ease Dream Curls

All 3 of these products just haven’t worked for me in the past. Hairstay is the most bizarre product I’ve tried for hair – it crackles and fizzes up as a foam before starting to melt down to a gel. The Paul Mitchell Mist I don’t know what it’s really meant to do – it can be used on a hair or body to add moisture, smells nice – but that’s about all it does on the skin it feels slightly sticky. Frizz Ease Dream Curls I think would work better for those with very curly hair naturally.

Toni&Guy Curl It Balm, L'Oreal Hot Curl, Schwarzkopf Powderful Volumising Powder
Toni&Guy Twist It Curl Balm, L’Oreal Hot Curl, Schwarzkopf Powderful Volumising Powder

The twist it balm makes curls too heavy and drop out. Hot Curl does help hold a curl in the hair, but also makes them look crispy and gives them a really fake effect. Powderful is a product I know a lot of people love, and I think if you had really thin hair you would like it, but it does add a weird residue to the hair, and I think if you have thick hair like I do – you might not get enough results to balance out the residue.

FOR RETRYING

These are products which I’ve had in the past and want to retry before donating them

Philip Kingsley Elasiticizer Samples x 3
Philip Kingsley Elasiticizer Samples x 3

I’ve never been sure of this product, I don’t think that it does anything for my hair, I’ve gone back to it multiple times and retried, and still I’m not sure I can notice anything different!

KMS-Curl-Up-Milkshake-Whipped-Cream
KMS Curl Up Wave Foam, milk_shake Whipped Cream x 2

KMS Curl Up Wave Foam, I’ve tried with this multiple times and I just don’t like it – even the smallest amount seems to make my hair crispy. I’ve been liking my hair wavy and natural recently, so I’ll try one more time before passing on! milk_shake whipped cream, I’ve never had any idea what this is mean to do, this smells like a cream soda (yuck!), one more go of this again to see if I can suss it out, otherwise byebye!

Toni and Guy Volume Plumping Whip
Toni and Guy Volume Plumping Whip

Another product which I’ve tried with several times and just can’t seem to get on with! Same reasons as most of the above, I feel like it does the opposite – weighing my hair down and making it feel greasy!

Lee Stafford Overnight Treatment, Frizz Ease Night Treatment
Lee Stafford Sleepover Overnight Treatment, Frizz Ease Night Cream Serum Treatment

These are both products which I’ve liked a lot in the past, trouble is they’re products which need putting in on the evening and washing out in the morning – which I never have time to do! I can’t remember the reasons specifically why I liked them, as I don’t think I’ve used since Uni. I’d probably donate but they are empty, so I just need to try them again and decide whether to throw or use up.

Oh wow you do have a big stash of hair products! I thought it was bad that I’ve got 3 bottles of shampoo ATM, but I feel better now 😜 especially as I just finished the 4th bottle lying about the house. I cant stand a lot of styling products, they make my hair greasy or sticky and don’t seem to do what they say. I’d rather just use hairspray!

Yeah! Me and the boyfriend share them too, so they’re not exclusively for my use! Too many styling products just counteract each other in my opinion, weighing it all down to how it was to start with! X

Ah well that’s not quite so bad then! I completely agree with you, and it’s easy to apply a bit too much and look a mess! The Toni and Guy volume whip got rid of all my natural volume and just made me a grease ball!c

Agree with you – I’ve seen other people who love it but a pea sized amount of that thing makes me flat as a pancake! It’s deadly!

          • June 3, 2015 / 1:50 pm

Clearly not suited to people with naturally curly or volumious hair!x

    That is an amazing stash!
Love the idea of donating what you don’t use to charity 🙂
