Essence All About Matt Concealer First Impressions

Whilst my skin has been a lot clearer recently and I haven’t even had a pimple in sight, I’ve been suffering with more hyper-pigmentation than normal across my cheeks and nose. I’ve long been a fan of the much hyped Collection concealer, but recently it’s just not been making the cut for me.

Collection has been my choice for years now, and as being pleased with such a budget product, I’ve never really felt the need to dip my toes into anything more expensive – I have been contemplating trying out the NARS creamy concealer, as it’s a product which just recently I’ve been hearing everyone loving. but I decided to give budget one more chance before I spend a small fortune on something which I’ve been used to spending a couple of pounds for.

Essence’s All About Matt Concealer is a mere £2, so when I saw having heard nothing about it previously, I decided it would be no great loss if it was absolutely terrible.  First Impressions of this in the store was good, feeling thick but blendable when testing on my hand, and leaving no signs of shine – it truly did look matte and evened out my hand to just one shade.

No foundation, just concealer and a bit of powder!
No foundation, just concealer and a bit of powder!

This comes in a squeezy tube which feels more hygenic than a dofur applicator, whilst maybe slightly messier. Once rubbed into the skin, this sets pretty quickly and I’ve found that it barely budges through the day. I’ve had this for 4 days, and have even gone as far to scrap the foundation on 2 days, just opting for this and a bit of translucent powder to set.

There were only two shades where I found mine, Matte Beige (more yellow based) and Matte Nude (more pink based) – both of which were quite pale. I decided to go for the slightly more yellowy shade to help with counteracting the redness. Both shades are quite pale, which for across the cheeks and nose won’t be too bad for contouring, but as a general concealer to hide those zits, if you’re as dark as me (MAC NC25) or darker – then you might find these too pale/highlighting.

I’ve only tried 1 lipstick from Essence and a couple of nail polishes I picked up whilst abroad, but I’ve never really checked out their line properly. If you have any recommendations please let me know!

Can you get essence in the UK? Have I been missing out on an entire brand here!
