Last week I posted an instagram shot of a big bundle of products that I picked up from our staff sale at work, one of the few perks of working at a TV shopping channel is that we can pick up an array of products that are old demo products, or old stock that we’re no longer carrying and are ridiculous prices (£20 foundation for £1 – too dark for me now, but come summer it will be perfect!). This Sale happens only every 3 months, and it’s like Black Friday – if you see something like a cake mixer for £20 you have to be willing to kill for it.
For me though, it’s a great place to try out beauty products which I’ve designed countless emails, web pages or marketing campaigns for but never tried. This is a line which we’ve now discontinued, but has always had me curious! I’ve been intrigued about this because Gary Sutherland – is a self confessed Hair Wizard, and anyone who is a self confessed anything always makes me dubious (especially as in this case Gary Sutherland has no hair).
I picked these up for just 50p each, so I would have had no great loss if these were bad, but we retailed them for £24.99 for the set. I didn’t really know what I was picking up, as you have to grab and buy and then really take note when you get back to your desk!
The Love Potion line doesn’t seem to be consistent from Shampoo to Conditioner (e.g both in a set are designed to nourish, shine or repair). The Love Potion Shampoo is “magical everyday cleansing for all hair types”, whilst the Love Potion Conditioner is designed to rejuvenate your hair with natural moisture and leave hair smooth, healthy and shiny.
I’ve been using these for a week now, and have in that time unusually washed my hair every day (too much time on my hands over the bank holiday) so have given them a good test. My favourite thing about these is the scent, these are that honey and oat type scent which has always been my favourite when it comes to haircare. The shampoo does a great job of getting rid of any product in the hair, the conditioner doesn’t feel when it’s been rinsed like it’s moisturised my hair at all, and is a bigger nightmare than usual to brush through, but when it’s dry my hair looks shiny, feels clean – but over all my hair doesn’t feel particularly nourished, silky or soft.
Does this do the job? Yes.
Am I glad I picked these up? Yes.
Would I purchase them again for £24.99? No
For me, these are just okay, they make my hair a bit to dry for everyday use, trouble is they smell so good that I find it hard to resist using them. But for me I’ve had products as good from brands such as Tresemme or L’Oreal Elvive – but if I was going to splash the cash on something more premium, I’d pick the Honey and Oat conditioners from Tigi or Label.M.
