Essie Big Spender – Swatch & Review

What better way to start my new blog with a swatch and review with one of the latest addition to my collection?

When visiting my local CCO type store I spotted that they’d added a few Essie polishes to their lineup of stocked brands so of course I had to check it out. This shade I’ve had on my hit list for a while so swiped up Big Spender it whilst it was a few quid off Boots and Superdrug prices. Originally released in the 2008 fall collection, it’s now a staple in their regular lineup.

The colour is described by Essie as a red-violet cream – A statement I’d mostly agree with – but would of described it as a raspberry-purple myself. It’s got a slight glow factor in daylight which is hard to capture and describe. The true colour I couldn’t seem to capture on camera – so I used a little light editing to show a colour which is more reflective of how it looks on the nails – excuse the slight green tinged skin, I promise I’m not a zombie.

Essie polishes seem to have quite a split opinion. You seem to either love ’em or hate ’em, some seem to find they chip a lot – not an opinion I’ve found and In general I’m personally a lover. I did find the formula of this polish a bit harder to work with than Essie’s normal offerings with the consistency being runnier than usual – having to take more care to apply than I’d like but overall it’s worth it. The finish is okay but nothing spectacular, like all essie polishes I found it lasted really well – I still wouldn’t skip using a top coat and in my picture I’ve used a coat of Seche Vite.

A fun shade which I can see this becoming a staple on my nails come spring and summer – this has been on and off my nails a few times already and I love it.

Essie Big Spender is available in Boots and Superdrug

What do you think of Essie – are you a lover or a hater? Have you got any requests for polish reviews?
